The ballots were cast and the tallies were counted and yesterday we found out who the 5 2013 NHL Hall of Fame Inductees are set to be. The class of 2013 features 3 NHL Players, 1 female hockey player and a late ex-coach. Who are they? Three former NHL stars — Chris Chelios, Scott Niedermayer, and Brendan Shanahan — and two others — retired female player Geraldine Heaney and late ex-coach Fred Shero are this year’s inductees into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
The announcement came from Toronto and of course there was some surprise and yet some of these inductees were almost certain to have finally been inducted. What do I mean? Chelios and Niedermayer, both defense men, were eligible for the first time, while Shanahan, a forward, was voted in on his second year of admissibility after being passed over in 2012. These three players are very deserving and yet there is debate.
Now, the omission of certain players/coaches is where the heated debate can be heard. Players like Rob Blake, Paul ...

Chris Chelios, back when he played for he Blackhawks. Photo: Sports Illustrated/CNN At the end of a long professional sports career, a common question asked of a retiring athlete is “Which team did you like playing for the most?”, or some such variation. Defenseman Chris Chelios, a Chicago, Ill. native who enjoyed a superbly successful NHL career that spanned 27 years, played...
Brendan Shanahan was capable of producing a Gordie Howe Hat Trick on any night.
He was a scorer, a playmaker and a fighter.
And now he's in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Shanahan, who played nine of his 21 NHL seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, had to wait one more year than many expected, but he's in.
The announcement was made Tuesday afternoon with Shanahan, 44, joining...

I am delighted that former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios and Brendan Shanahan were named part o the Hockey Hall of Fame's 2013 induction class today (ditto for the Bettman dig), but I sure as hell picked an awful travel day, because two players with long and storied careers being feted for their accomplishments = enough stories and tributes to keep someone who's "...

Former Detroit Red Wings teammates Chris Chelios and Brendan Shanahan will enter the Hockey Hall of Fame shoulder-to-shoulder, as both were among the 2013 inductees announced today.

I’m taking some personal time off from writing a regular column for DSN this week. Though in light of Brendan Shanahan and Chris Chelios being elected to the Hockey Hall Of Fame this week, I have decided to repost a retrospective on the 2001-02 Red Wings from November 2009.
With the election of Shanahan and Chelios, that awesome collection of talent now has six players in the Hall...

Shanny played two seasons with the Rangers, putting together a line of 52-56-108 in 140 games. For his career, Shanny was one of the best power forwards to ever play the game, scoring 658 goals and adding...

ST. LOUIS --The couple that dealt blackjack at the Casino Queen had a son in St. Louis before moving to Sin City.
That boy, just 1 year old when his mom and dad relocated to the land of lights, slots and cards, grew up and fell in love with ice hockey. And since his desert town had no professional team to cheer for, ZachPochiro stuck with his birthplace Blues.
He listened to his...
Bowman, Yzerman, Fetisov, Larionov, Robitaille, Hull and now two more today. It shouldn't have come as a surprise. Maybe it's unpleasant for many of you, because of the hard fact their induction represents, but Brendan Shanahan and Chris Chelios aren't even the end of the line.
The 2002 Red Wings were the greatest hockey team of all time, and the legacy they left...
