It took longer than it should have, but training camp invitee Blair Betts has finally signed with the Flyers. According to Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly, Betts, who will be the 4th line center, signed a one year deal with the team. There was some hold-up with the money involved and that made the deal take longer than expected.Betts is the perfect complementary player for the Flyers. He will kill penalties, win faceoffs and play the kind of defensive hockey you need from a 4th line player. On a team loaded with top-end offensive talent at forward, he's exactly what the team was missing. The Flyers had room on the roster to sign Betts because they announced yesterday that Ole-Kristain Tollefsen and Brian Boucher would be placed on the injured list to start the season. Marc-Andre Bourdon was also called up and will be the 7th defenseman until Tollefsen is ready. Here is the Flyers current roster:Forwards (14): Danny Briere, Mike Richards, Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter, Scott Hartnell, D...

A Strange Day
There really was prospect hockey on Wednesday evening instead of turning this into Prospect Doctor, Prospect 90210 or Prospect Law and Order.Ethan Werek (2009 2nd) and his Kingston Frontenacs have taken an early lead in the Eastern Conference after a hard fought 4-3 road win over the Belleville Bulls in the first of a "home and home". Class is Now In Session
This weekend marks the beginning of the 2009-10 for more than just the New York Rangers as Ranger prospects playing in the NCAA will be getting their season underway as well. This season will be a little different as 3 key Ranger prospects will be playing NCAA hockey and it will be interesting to see how they handle it.Chris Kreider may not have the expectations of the Boston College...
Better/Worse?
Some questions in the form of a preview:
Are the Rangers better or worse at forward?
Added: Marian Gaborik, Christopher Higgins, Ales Kotalik, Enver Lisin, Vinny Prospal, Artem Anisimov, Brian Boyle, Donald Brashear.
Subtracted: Scott Gomez, Nik Antropov, Markus Naslund, Nik Zherdev, Blair Betts, Colton Orr, Fred Sjostrom, Lauri Korpikoski.

An Islander Fan's Take On The Rangers
As I write this, the Rangers have played roughly two periods of their 2009-10 season. While this is an extremely small sample size, it's not too early to draw a few conclusions about this Rangers team. Here's an unbiased look at what we've seen so far...Make no mistake about it - this is John Tortorella's team. The Rangers of the past few years have been horribly...
Tim Panaccio: Betts Are On!
Blair Betts agrees to a 1-year deal worth $550,000.
The delay? Mike Rathje ... honest.

It’s a hit-and-miss beginning for Morris
In last season’s playoffs with the Rangers, Derek Morris didn’t see much of Alex Ovechkin . In the first round, New York coach John Tortorella deployed his top shutdown pairing of Marc Staal and Dan Girardi whenever the Washington sniper was on the ice.
Bill Meltzer: Practice notebook: 10-1-09
Tim will have an update on his blog and CSN column, but here are some quick notes from practice:
* The Flyers have signed Blair Betts to a one-year contract.
* Brian Boucher worked out early this morning and has made some progress in recovering from his groin injury.
* Minor league goalie Michael Teslak worked out with the club today along with Johan Backlund. According...
Tim Panaccio: JVR a Flyer
JVR is a Flyer.
The Flyers have not announced it officially, but he told us today after practice he is making the road trip to start the season.
That means, he must be on the roster since it's due 3 p.m. today.
There was no way the FLyers could keep him off it. Just like, I feel this is no way they can keep Mika Pyorala off the roster, as well.
BTW: Randy JOnes practiced...
