TEAMS: Carolina Hurricanes, Toronto Maple Leafs, Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings
With Cam Ward still in the hospital, it was announced today that Carolina is looking at adding goaltending depth to their team. I was told by a source today that one player the team has looked at is Vesa Toskala. Toskala is in the final year of a $4 million per year deal, and is one of the few potential starting goaltenders available on the trade market. To offset the cost, the Leafs would take one of three players in return: Walker, Samsonov, or Cullen. While these tlaks are in the very early stages, I wouldn't be shocked to see these two teams, who find themselves in 14th and 15h in the east, make a trade. The Caps have placed Nylander on waivers. Nobody is going to take him unless he hits re-entry waivers, and even that is unlikely.Bruce Garrioch suggests the dallas stars are seeking a big forward, and speculates that Dallas and Toronto could be working on a deal. Poni is the name that comes to mind. Garrioch also says the Panthers are shopping Horton and once again, T...

Hurricanes G Ward suffers leg laceration
Carolina Hurricanes goaltender Cam Ward will remain in a hospital overnight after suffering a leg laceration in the team's loss to Columbus on Saturday.
Matt Karash: Cam Ward out about a month...Best thing that could happen?
First, let me be very clear. In no way am I suggesting that the Carolina Hurricanes are a better team over the course of an 82-game season, playoff series, or whatever else without Cam Ward. And though he has not been great during the past couple weeks, the team's current struggles by no means rest more than his fair share on his shoulders.
But all that said, the Carolina...
Hurricanes sign Legace to replace sidelined Ward
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes are turning to veteran goalie Manny Legace to help replace the injured Cam Ward.
Best guess: Canes could turn to Legace
So what's the Canes' next move? Cam Ward will be out at least three to four weeks, general manager Jim Rutherford says, so a goaltending decision must be made.
The best guess here is that the Hurricanes will sign a goaltender and that it will be Manny Legace. He's 36, he's experienced and he played well against the Canes in a preseason exhibition game during...

from Mike G. Morreale of NHL.com,
Coach Paul Maurice is faced with the realization his 2-11-3 team must carry on without the services of injured franchise linchpins Eric Staal (upper body) and Cam Ward (left leg laceration) for the foreseeable future.
“I still believe in this team,” Maurice said after Monday’s practice. “We had a tough stretch back in 2003 when half...
