Once again, this series is living up to all the hype. Luckily for Caps fans, it's going our way... for now! What more can you ask for? Alex Ovechkin with his first playoff hat trick. Sidney Crosby with his first playoff hat trick. Simeon Varlamov with another amazing performance in net and the Caps with a 2-0 series lead headed to Pittsburgh. Now, this was huge for the Caps and us fans. We know this series is far from over. The Pens and Caps are two very good evenly matched teams. It's been a small margin of victory for each of the first two games and they could have gone either way. I expect the Pens to come out on fire on Wednesday night. They've scored first in both games, but the second goal has been the difference. Now on to Crosby. My goodness, what a freakin baby he is. First, he won't give a lick of credit to Varlamov on his amazing save in Game 1 and his super performance in Game 2. Then after Ovie scored the hat trick goal, Crosby has a little chat with the ref. What did he say? Well... "People kept throwing hats," Sidney Crosby said tonight. "I was just asking if he could make an announcement to ask them to stop. I mean, the first wave came and then I think they were all pretty much picked up, and then more started coming. So for us, we just wanted to make sure we kept kind of moving and kept the game going, wanted to try to get back in it. So wasn't complaining about anything." Right. Dude, I know you are a young guy and you are the pretty boy of the league and are extremely talented, but why do you have to be a whiner like your owner. Like Lebron James, you are arguably the best or easily in the Top 3 players in the league. You don't have to do all the complaining. You are good enough. Just play the game. Okay, now back to Varly. You can give Ovie the credit for the big goals, but those goals may not have meant much if not for the sensational play in net by Varlamov. His 2 saves on the Pens 2-man advantage were every bit as good as the stick save on Saturday. The pad stop on Crosby and the glove save on Gonchar kept the Caps down just one when a 2-0 deficit may have been too much to overcome. His saves in the 2nd period with the Pens up 2-1 were huge as well. He moves laterally so well and while he'll still give up rebounds, it's up to the Caps defense to tie up their man or clear the puck. The Caps did a decent job of that in Game 2, but I'd say on Crosby's first two goals, Mike Green did not do his job. On both goals, Crosby was able to stand right in front and bang away at rebounds. Green was there each time and failed to tie him up. He didn't have to take a penalty, but my goodness, get a body on him and make it tougher. Now we move on to Game 3. It will be tough. A win and the Caps will be in great shape, but any long time Capitals fan knows that we could be up 3-0 in games and 3-0 in the 3rd period of Game 4 and we still would not feel confident. We have been up 2-0 and 3-1 against this franchise many times before and we all remember the heartbreak. Plus, you know the Rangers were thinking good things up 2-0 about 2 weeks ago and we all know what happened there. Just steal 1 on the road and we will have our chances to end this one and exorcise the demons. But it aint over. We are just halfway there.

Sidney Crosby upset because all the hats on the ice hurt his vagina

WASHINGTON, DC — Alex Ovechkin put the puck in the net for his third goal Monday and the hats started to pour down from all the reaches of the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, and all of a sudden, Sidney Crosby’s vagina started to hurt so bad. “All of a sudden, it was like my vagina [...]

CROSBY, OVECHKIN BOTH TURN TRICKS IN GAME 2

This Eastern Conference semifinal between the Caps and the Penguins has lived up to the hype so far. Washington beat Pittsburgh last night, 4-3, as Pittsburgh’s Sidney Crosby and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin each scored three goals, suggesting that this series should just be settled in a 60-frame shootout, and I really wouldn’t have a problem [...]

Sidney Crosby Is a Hat-er

Sidney Crosby hates hats apparently... Crosby just keeps providing more ammunition for his detractors. His latest gaffe is on display at our friend Dan Steinberg's D.C. Sports Bog over at The Washington Post's site. Crosby complains about people throwing hats, then goes on to discuss Simeon Varlamov's sloppy positioning (seriously). [...]If you're one of the best...

Pens Fans Fooled By Free Ticket Text Faux Pas

The Penguins & Capitals resume their exciting playoff series tonight in Pittsburgh in what’s sure to be a jam-packed Mellon Arena. Wouldn’t it be great to be there in person, watching Sidney Crosby & Alex Ovechkin face off in a grudge match of superstars? And wouldn’t it be great if you could bring three more [...]

Capitals Fans Despise Hats

4-3 victory for the Capitals over Penguins. 2-0 series lead. Hat trick for Alex Ovechkin. Hat trick fail for Sidney Crosby. If you’re going to waste the 20-plus dollars you spent on a Caps ballcap, you want to be in this number when the hats come flying in. H/T Mr. I.

Bettman: ‘I Should Have Wished For More Wishes’

I love when people say hockey is a team sport and one person really never has the ability to dominate a game, unlike the NBA. If anyone says that, show them last night’s Caps-Pens game, where Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin each had a hat trick. It’s funny to watch Washington play Pittsburgh so well considering they barely made it past the lowly Rangers in the first round...

For the rest of 2007, the NHL Closer will be written by the fine folks at Melt Your Face Off. Enjoy. What a truly blessed event. Last night marked the first appearance of Sidney Crosby since the...

Varlamov Robs Crosby - Photo and Video Swag

Tremendous photos from the Washington Capitals Game 1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins can be found here, including a great still of the Simeon Varlamov Great F Street Robbery of Sidney Crosby’s second period shot. And if that’s not enough, youtube has immortalized the moment. Unless the network snatches it down.

Ovechkin and Crosby Begin Playoff Duel, Two Teams Also Play Hockey

The NHL is banking a lot on the appeal of the series that started yesterday with a 3-2 win for the Washington Capitals over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The reason, of course, is the presence on the ice of the league’s two current marquee players: Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. - Brian Anders over [...]

Pittsburgh Penguins MIA

It seems the Penguins have an offensive force to match Ovechkin in Sidney Crosby, but they're lacking the Scottie Pippen to their Michael Jordan. If only they had an Evgeni Malkin, or Fedetenko. If only they had a David Steckel. The series is now 2-0, and the teams have played pretty evenly. Sid the Bitch and Alex Ovechkin have each scored 4 goals in two games, but yet the Capitals...

Are you not entertained?

It's rare that something highly anticipated exceeds expectations. Lebron James. The Dark Knight. Girls with tongue rings. And the first postseason meeting of Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby. Two games in and it's already a classic, with Simeon Varlamov providing what is thus far the iconic image of the playoffs with his dazzling stick save in game one and last night...

ALL IN A DAY OF SPORTS

What an incredible day of sports it was on Saturday, 5/2/09. My afternoon began with the Penguins-Capitals in their game 1 match up of the Eastern Conference semi-finals. This game had plenty of skill and speed. Two of the biggest stars in the sport, Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin, each had goals and dished out big hits but the play of this game was when Caps goalie, Simeon Varlamov...

Hosting Pittsburgh in the Playoffs, It's a Home Sweet Home Feeling, at Long Last

An interesting claim by NBC's Pierre McGuire at the outset of Saturday's broadcast -- that Penguins' fans comprised upwards of 40 percent of the attendance in the arena! I jest of course; and we can have sport in the wake of so impressive a performance by both home team and home crowd. Just how did the Phone Booth vaccinate itself so conspicuously of the Western Pennsylvania...

*Wipes the Dust off the Blog*

Faithful readers, well the few of you that are left I suppose. It's not that I'm intentionally ignoring this blog. I thought that I could figure out how to balance work and blogging but apparently...I'm lazier than I thought. It's not just work seems to be eating my face off, but I have to tell you...this year's playoffs suck. I'm sorry to have to tell you...
