Former Detroit Red Wings star Sergei Fedorov says a man entrusted to manage his money during the past 11 years swindled him out of $43 million. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Wayne County Circuit Court, Fedorov says Joseph Zada of Grosse Pointe Shores also broke a promise to repay him $60 million by April 20. The suit says Zada "acting in concert with others" and "intentionally lied to Fedorov" whenever he asked about the money.

Mike Knuble Will Never Be Booed in This Town. Am I Right?

One of the great paradoxes in hockey involves the intense love that fans develop for their team's individual players set against the backdrop of a sport that sees very frequent personnel changes. Every season, there many trades, often involving several players per side, and free agency is just a bonanza. This is true of every sport, but I've always noticed how quickly fanbases...

The NHL has scheduled an arbitration hearing on July 30 for Czech winger Jiri Hudler, who says he's leaving the Detroit Red Wings to join Dynamo Moscow of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. The Detroit Red Wings and RFA forward Jiri Hudler are going to arbitration next week, but it feels like GM Ken Holland is treating it as a formality. Hudler has a two-year, $10 million (tax-free!) deal on the table with Moscow Dynamo in the KHL, and Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports that Hudler's agent has informed Holland of the winger's intent to play in Russia next season...

For Mike Knuble, there are benefits to signing with the Washington Capitals that go beyond the $5.6 million over two years he's due to receive. For example, there's the chance that he's going to play on the same line as his son's favorite hockey star, Alexander Ovechkin."[I'm going to] drag him out to a birthday party or something," said Knuble, meeting...

Looking Ahead to 09—10: Three Red Wings Who Must Step Up

Marian Hossa, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Kopecky, and Ty Conklin have all left Detroit via free agency. If you add Jiri Hudler to that group (he's likely gone one way or another) you have 88 goals, 187 points, and 25 wins walking out the door. That's 30 percent of the Red Wings' goals and 49 percent of their wins last season. With only about $1.7 million of cap...
