Wild
It's been a tough couple of days for the Minnesota Wild and its fans alike, and it's not going to get any better as the summer wears on. After a season filled with so much expectation and promises, it was over just like that after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. So many questions remain, and the one that everybody is asking is: Who's the blame for the Wild's failure?

  • I'll go with Gaborik not showing up ( 1 assist, -3), Kurtis Foster (broken leg) and Nick Schultz (appendectomy) missing all but 1 game, and running into a Theodore that looked like the Theodore of '02.
  • It has to be the front office. This is a good team, but that's all. They aren't built for a playoff run. I tried to tell myself when the playoffs began that it would work out, but in the back of my head I knew we wouldn't go far. If they want to do more than what they have the past two seasons they need to do two things. First, keep players like Bouchard, Rolston, and Gaborik around. I'm already under the impression that Demitra will be gone, because we won't be paying him the $4 million he's expecting. Second, we need a few big play-makers. We have Gaborik and Rolston, that's great. But there is clearly something missing. Koivu is going to be a beast for years to come, but that still isn't enough. I'd start by trying to bring in John-Michael Liles from Colorado and maybe try to land a solid center like Patrick Marleau. So, in short, the front office needs to step up and actually make a serious push to bring this team a championship instead of being satisfied just being competitive.

Round 2 Predictions: Detroit Red Wings (1) vs. Colorado Avalanche (6)

For the past ten years the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche have had one of the most heated rivalries in hockey. And although in recent years they have taken back seat to the Pittsburgh-Philadelphia battles, this playoff match-up may just be the spark to reignite the ill will. Colorado advanced after getting past the Minnesota Wild in just six games. The Red Wings looked...

Losing makes winning better

You all know that the Colorado Avalanche are my favorite sports team. A lot of you also know that I have a second favorite team: the New England Patriots. I know that few of you share in that love of the Pats - heck, I’m guessing there’s more than a small minority that was really, [...]

Thursday night's action

The Ducks lost again Thursday night. They were shutout 1-0 in Denver by Jose Theodore and the Colorado Avalanche. That's two straight shutout losses for the Ducks. They wasted a pretty good effort by backup goalie Jonas Hiller. Corey Perry got hurt late in the game during a collision in front of...

Dirtlocker points for: Joe Louis, Peter Budaj, Pavel Datsyuk, Dominik Hasek, Henrik Zetterberg, Joe Torre Several years ago this rivalry would be called "Friday Night at the Fights" but in recent years there has been less venom between the Detroit Red Wings and the Colorado Avalanche. More hockey is...
