The Conference finals are in full swing, and everything appears to be in order. The Penguins are heading into Philadelphia up two games to none, and the Detroit Red Wings are a game away from running the table on the Dallas Stars. It is at this time that my pick of Dallas in seven games seems a little ill advised, but I guess that's the risk you run going out on a limb like that. With everyone else picking the Wings I would look like a genius if the Stars took this one, but that's looking a little unlikely.Actually, with everything unfolding pretty much exactly as was expected the big stories in hockey have been from matters outside of the playoffs. Well, except maybe Mike Ribeiro and Chris Osgood's attics following game two. Just recently the head coach of the San Jose Sharks Ron Wilson became the former head coach of the San Jose Sharks. This sets the score for an off-season that could be as much about signing free agents as it is about locking down a head coach. Along...

Penguin forward guarantees he will score game winning goal in OT....then does it

Mid-way through the Overtime marathon, Penguin forward Petr Sykora leaned over to NBC commentator Pierre McGuire (doing on-ice commentary from between the player benches) and promised that he was going to score the winning goal. In the following OT period the Penguins were awarded a PowerPlay. As he was preparing to hop onto the ice, Sykora told his teammates he was going to score...

Red Wings Strong Play Leads to 3-0 Lead

One thing you don't expect come this time of year in the NHL playoffs, when there are only 8 teams left, is that one team is going to be substantially better than another. Series in this round are tight and goals, hard to come by, are earned with grinding work and extraordinary skill. This has not been the case in the Avalanche-Red Wing series. The Red Wings are remarkably...

Will Gauthier fall victim to numbers game?

After adding Kimmo Timonen and Jason Smith to their defense during the off-season, word from Philadelphia is that the Flyers may be looking to part with defensemen Denis Gauthier, Courier Post Online's Chuck Gormley.

Stars-Ducks: First Period

Another strong period for the Stars. One mistake by Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin at his own blue line, Mike Ribeiro gets the breakaway and the Stars lead 1-0 at the intermission. It's a game of mistakes and the ability of teams to capitalize on them. I thought the Stars had the Ducks scrambl...
