Cullen has three years remaining on the free agent contract he signed with the Blueshirts last offseason at $2.8 million per. While the move certainly aids the Rangers' cap situation, it also removes some of the depth at center that the Rangers had bought themselves by signing
Scott Gomez and
Chris Drury. The team will now need to seek a replacement for the departing Cullen, perhaps moving
Sean Avery to the third line center slot.
