Sabres save roster by resigning Vanek

The Buffalo Sabres lost both Chris Drury and Daniel Briere to free agency. They were not about to lose their high-scoring youngster. So how valuable is Thomas Vanek? The Sabres had an answer when they matched the Edmonton Oilers' offer, retaining Vanek by inking him to a seven-year, $50 million dollar deal. At least Buffalo fans know that Vanek wants to be with their team. Sure he got a hefty contract to stay, but it is no more than he would have gotten had he gone elsewhere. So Vanek was essentially choosing between teams. Looks like he wants to be a Sabre.
