Sami Kapanen announced his retirement from the NHL on Monday. Kapanen who spent the last five seasons with the Flyers after being acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes retires after 13 seasons in the NHL.
Kapanen spent his first 4 seasons of professional hockey playing for Kalpa Kuopio, a Finnish professional team in the SM-Liiga. Kapanen is now a majority owner of the club and will now finish his professional career there.
Kapanen was to make $1.25 Million Dollars next season with the Flyers, a number that the Flyers will now be able to spend.

Not Time to Panic for Fly Guys; Not yet Anyway
The Flyers entered the 2008-09 campaign with a lot of promise, and so far have delivered only 1 point in three games. Three losses, one being in overtime, the Flyers have dug themselves an early hole. However, it is not time to panic, not yet anyway.
