This is exactly what's wrong with the NHL right now - not the actions of Walker mind you, the actions of Ward are embarrassing, almost as embarrassing as this post. Had he dropped his gloves and fought Walker he'd have bruised knuckles worst case - better yet he'd be sending a message to Bruins fans and the Hurricanes that they're up against the ropes and fighting for their lives...we're beating you on the scoreboard, now I'm going to beat you in the alley, go to NC work you over in your barn then come back to the Garden to bury you for good. But instead he attempts to draw a penalty, takes a punch and turtles. I think the '72 Bruins and true hockey fan are more worried about the trend Ward is following than his swollen eye.
The league has to review this play, this is suspension worthy. I would say about 4-5 games at least. I don’t care what some homer writer from Carolina has to say, this was a cheap sucker punch. Back in 1995 when Rangers goon Tie Domi sucker punched the gutless puke Ulf Samuelsson and he got 8 games. In my opinion Scott Walker broke the code by punching a guy that wasn't ready to fight, watch the tape Ward had no intention of fighting he still had his gloves on. That is a sucker punch. There is no sense to Scott Walker's act of thuggery and Walker is very lucky that Bruins tough guy Lucic wasn't able to get a hold of him.

Walker's next punch had KO power in overtime.

Scottie has probably got sore knuckles.
I think I have lost all respect for Canes coach Paul Maurice (not that I had that much before this game) when the coach was asked by the media what are the ramifications of the Scott Walker situation/sucker punch. The smart assed Maurice replied, "Scott probably has sore knuckles," he said. Asked if the NHL might fine his winger, Maurice quipped: "I may have to sell...

Canes’ Walker Not Suspended For Sucker Punch
Near the end of Boston’s 4-0 Game 5 downgrading of the Hurricanes last night, Carolina winger Scott Walker decided to take out his frustration on the Bruins’ Aaron Ward - with a sucker punch to Aaron’s face.
Check that - first Walker came flying in with an unexpected elbow to Ward’s face, then Scott slugged Aaron, [...]
I THINK THE NHL GOT THIS ONE RIGHT
Puck Daddy has been all over the now-rescinded suspension of Carolina Hurricanes badass Scott Walker, who was originally scheduled to sit out Game 6 for this “fight” with Boston’s Aaron Ward. And I think it was a good decision (for once) by Colin Campbell and the NHL. It’s not a sucker-punch, as everyone keeps calling [...]
Ward's side of the Walker sucker punch.
Very interesting look at the other side of the ugly game five incident from the person that was on the receiving end of the sucker punch by Scott Walker. So you have to wonder if Walker is lying, if Walker thought he was getting into a fight with Ward; why isn't his opponent ready to fight? If you watch the video you will see that Walker just grabbed Ward and punched him. You...

Aaron Ward is questionable for tonight’s game. The Bruins are hoping that Blake Wheeler can learn a lot from watching the game up in the press box. If the Bruins want to win, they will need another monster game from Zdeno Chara. The Hurricanes haven’t [...]
Scott Walker=Dale Hunter
One of the dirtiest cheap shots I remember in hockey was when the Washington Capitals' Dale Hunter cross-checked the New York Islanders' Pierre Turgeon from behind after Turgeon had a scored a goal to put a playoff game out of reach. Hunter was suspended for 21 games, and a history of playoff cheap shots was born. Fast forward to Game 5 of the Bruins/Canes series, and a team...
Broad Street Bulletin - Scott Walker "Sucker-Punches" Aaron Ward...But NHL...
Game-5 between the Hurricanes and the Bruins was sure to be a battle, but the physical play may have gone just a little too far. With just under 3-minutes remaining in regulation, Scott Walker of the Hurricanes sucker-punched Bruins' Defenseman Aaron Ward. With Boston leading 4-0 at the time of the incident, the game had pretty much been decided. Following the Bruins fourth...
On the Beat: Scott Walker not suspended, Sedin going to light it up and Doughty for Team Canada 2010?
What team beat writers are saying this afternoon:
Jonas Hiller needs a better performance from his teammates in Game 6. The Ducks looked like a tired group on Sunday. I expect a far better performance tomorrow, but I also expect that game to go into overtime. This really is Detroit’s series to win.
Sounds like Aaron Ward [...]

Well, that game was crap
Canes lost 4-0 in Game 5.Let me put it like this - the Canes were playing so bad that I fell asleep during the third period. Of a playoff game. That, my readers, is pretty frickin' bad.Of course, by sleeping through the last 15 minutes (the last thing I remember before being woken up with 25 seconds left was Erik Cole's stupid delay of game penalty), I missed the Scott Walker...
