At the end of regulation and overtime in last night's Flyers at Capitals game, the zambonis came out to smooth the center of the ice for the shootout. They did they job, just polishing the middle third of the ice, and left. After they left, the Flyers apparently determined the ice was not as smooth as they liked it. The prima donna prisses from Philly made the refs bring the zambonis BACK out, where they made a couple more passes. How did the smoother, faster ice work for Philly? Three shots, three Jose Theodore saves. Capitals win.Jeremy made the appropriate observation that tampons would be appropriately stocked in the Philadelphia locker room from now on. I guess the Broad Street Bullies are more like a travelling Smuckers Fairies on Ice tour now.Dear IRS: These tickets were purchased during tax year 2008 for the express purpose of reporting back to this blog. Thank you.

Flyers Complain About Zambonis, Then Lose
Anyone who attended the Capitals-Flyers game Tuesday was made to wait
an extra few minutes as the Philadelphia Flyers, in enemy territory,
protested the way the Zamboni drivers surfaced the ice before the
overtime shootout. Both Zambonis reappeared from the underbelly of the
Verizon Center, as one of the drivers had a discussion ? or maybe even
an argument ? with the referee...
Red Hot Capitals
The Capitals extended their winning streak to seven last night. But
more importantly they beat the Flyers for the first time this season.
After a painful elimination in the seventh game of the first round of
the playoffs last year and a loss earlier in the season, the Caps
needed this victory. No matter how far they have come this season, they
still needed to beat the team that...
List of injured Flyers, now nine deep, continues to grow
Now this is getting completely ridiculous. The injury bug that has hit the Flyers this season has gotten completely out of control and has now inflicted over a third of the roster. The fact that the Flyers are even in second place in the Atlantic Division is a testament to just how deep and talented this team really is.On Monday, GM Paul Holmgren went through the litany of injuries...

Holy Locker Room, Batman!
Murf of the DC-area site Homer McFanboy encountered an unusual scene during last night's post-victory interviews: a group (flock? pod?) of holy men milling about the Washington Capitals' locker room. Read all about it here.
Final Thoughts Vs. Minnesota (01-08-09)
If you’ve been a fan of NHL Hockey for the past 15 years or so, than you are familiar with Jacques Lemaire’s style. The Flyers arrived home from a moderately successful road trip to face on of the stingier teams in the league. And, they rolled into Philly having just shut out The NHL’s top ...
A Rivalry Is Reborn (and Surprise, It's Not in the Southeast)
"Let's go Flyers!" (tepid) . . . "Flyers suck!" (thunderous) There was last night in our building, in abundance, hatred. Blissful, beautiful, bellicose, and long-lost loathing, united against the orange and black. The universe at last seemed ordered. An observer in the Phone Booth last ...
Tempers Flare: Flyers @ Red Hot Caps
Martin of digidigidigi fame drops by to offer up tonight's game thread."Look at us now, busted up and everyone talking about hard rain. But
we've learned by the dust of 'em all, Barter-town's learned. Now when
men get to fighting, it happens here and it finishes here. Two men
enter, one man leaves."
Rebirth of an Old Rivalry? Caps / Flyers Open Thread
"There are a lot of teams we don't like, and the Flyers are one of them." - Washington Capitals Head Coach Bruce Boudreau
Take It From One Who Knows
Sergei Fedorov talked with the media after practice yesterday and Caps365
captured the moment. Pay particular attention starting at the 1:13 mark
where Fox 5's Dave Feldman says "This is not a hockeytown".
USA Falls Short at World Juniors, But Riemer Shines
When Team USA faced Canada in the World Junior Hockey Championship on New Year's Eve, the Americans were riding high and looking for an upset over essentially the home team of the tournament. USA hung in there for awhile, leading the Canadians early, but they couldn't hold on, and after losing ...
Jeff Carter named only Flyers All Star
The Flyers roster is loaded with star players who are having excellent seasons this year. It all starts with Mike Richards, the team leader who is 13th in the league in points. Of course, there is also Jeff Carter, who is tied for the league lead in goals. Simon Gagne is also scoring goals at a high rate and is 11th in the league in goals scored. Defensively, Kimmo Timonen is...
Nice Little Rivalry Brewing Between Flyers and Washington Caps
As part of one of my MBA classes at GWU in the fall of 2007, we had to work with the Capitals to come up with a plan to help encourage students to purchase super cheap tickets to Caps games. In our research, we attended a number of Caps games at the $10 student rate and learned that nobody cared ...
Alzner Thinks It's Loud
Dan Steinberg gives us some comments from Karl Alzner on how loud the Verizon Center has been this year.
"I heard rumors that it was really good
and I saw in the playoffs that it was good, but I didn't think it was
gonna be as loud as it is," Karl Alzner said.
