The Tootoo - Weller Situation

My take, and I'll try to be as objective as possible since I'm not a Jordin Tootoo fan, is this: Tootoo's hit on Daniel Winnik was clean, dangerous maybe because of the attention to hits to the head, but clean nonetheless. Winnik had his head down and Tootoo led with his shoulder and followed through. It looked like he came up high with his elbow, but I think the damage would have been more severe if he used his elbow to hit Winnik's head.

I have more of an issue with the other two Predators players pushing Winnik down on the ice as Winnik was getting the number of the train that clocked him, especially Greg de Vries pushing the back of Winnik's head.

So I do understand Craig Weller's actions for sticking up for a teammate.

However, if Weller wanted to cause more damage, he certainly could have. I don't categorize the penalty in the same classification as Steve Downie or Jesse Boulerice.

Remember, Tootoo is no angel.
