According to The Fourth Period, the Devils have agreed to terms with free agent forward Dainius Zubrus, signing the former Sabre to a six-year, $20.4 million contract. Zubrus is the third free agent center that Buffalo has lost in the first three days of free agency. Daniel Briere signed a lucrative deal with the Flyers while Chris Drury left for the greener pastures in New York. Well, six years at 20 million is certainly "fiscally responsible" compared to the seven years and 51.5 million that the Rangers handed to Scott Gomez. Of course, Dainius Zubrus is not Scott Gomez.

No Deal With the Devil?

The Devils aren't expected to make much of an impact the rest of the summer. Devils President Lou Lamoriello pointed out that the contracts free agents are getting are just too much for the Devils to stomach. "We will not be involved at the numbers [being paid]," Lamoriello told The NY Post. "What we are trying to do is be fiscally responsible." This is...

BREAKING: Gomez to the Rangers

Via ESPN.com: "[Scott] Gomez, one of the top centers on the free-agent market, signed a seven-year deal with the New York Rangers, ESPN The Magazine's E.J. Hradek reports."

2-For-1! RANGERS ADD Gomez AND Drury

Via John Dellapina of the New York Daily News: "In what seemed fiscally impossible, the Rangers have pulled off a dynamic free agent double. They've agreed to terms with both Scott Gomez AND Chris Drury. Gomez, 27, gets a seven-year deal worth in excess of $7 million per. Drury, who turns 31 in August, gets a five-year deal for about the same annual salary."

Rangers Resign Last Piece in Avery

The New York Rangers announced today that fiery forward Sean Avery will be returning next season after being awarded $1.9 million today in an arbitration hearing held on Tuesday. Getting Avery resigned means the Rangers now have all of their restricted free-agents signed and the team is set for its first two lines. Avery will probably play wing on the second line along with Brendan...

Rangers Ship Cullen Back to Carolina

Cullen has three years remaining on the free agent contract he signed with the Blueshirts last offseason at $2.8 million per. While the move certainly aids the Rangers' cap situation, it also removes some of the depth at center that the Rangers had bought themselves by signing Scott Gomez and Chris Drury. The team will now need to seek a replacement for the departing Cullen,...

Isles, Devs Pounce on Free Agent Scraps

While the opening days of free agency were more than a little deflating for Islanders and Devils fans - especially given the splash made by the rival Rangers - both organizations appear to be bouncing back nicely after a disappointing start out of the gate. The Isles have signed Ruslan Fedotenko and could be looking at Ed Jovanovski and Mike Comrie. The Devils meanwhile locked...

Garden of Dreams

Well, you can say this about James Dolan and his cronies at Madison Square Garden: they know how to put on a press conference. Today, the Knicks and Rangers held successive news conferences at their joint training facility in Greenburgh, NY. The Rangers introduced Scott Gomez and Chris Drury, while the Knicks introduced Zach Randolph, Fred Jones, and Dan Dickau.
