The Islanders received their only goal from Michael Grabner, giving him 12 on the season. The Islanders had plenty of opportunities to put in a tying goal, going up on the power-play five times in the game. The Islanders were unable to capitalize on any of these.

Rick DiPietro had another solid start after coming back from his groin injury, blocking aside 22 of the 24 shots sent his way. He had been battling the flu the past few days, and played sick throughout the game. He will not be travailing with the team to Buffalo according to Katie Strang on Twitter.

The Islanders now head to Buffalo for a Friday night battle, the first of two games in three days against the Sabres.
