Three seconds is a pretty quick increment of time, almost too quick to accomplish anything worthwhile.  Unless you’re the AHL’s Abbotsford Heat, who netted a pair of goals in their 3-0 win over the Toronto Marlies in only three seconds to set a North American professional hockey record for fastest pair of goals scored (the previous record is four seconds, a mark held by many NHL teams). The goals were scored so quickly that the camera missed the second goal by the Heat’s Ben Street because it was still showing the initial replay of the nifty first goal by Steve McCarthy, which put the Heat up 1-o late in the third period. And the record setting goal flurry is even all that more impressive when you realize that Abbotsford scored both times while shorthanded, thus making their feat all sorts of crazy good.  Then again, the Marlies are the affiliate for the Toronto Maple Leafs, a franchise that has of late become known more for it’s all-around ineptness than its hockey tradition, so maybe their achievement isn’t all that super hot when you think about it.
