OTTAWA, ON - JANUARY 30: Daniel Alfredsson #11 of the Ottawa Senators looks for the puck against the Montreal Canadiens during a game at Scotiabank Place on January 30, 2010 in Ottawa, Canada. (Photo by Phillip MacCallum/Getty Images)

According to head coach Paul MacLean, Daniel Alfredsson has passed his baseline concussion test and depending on how the captain feels, he will be a game time decision tonight.

In other words, having skated on the team's second line with Kyle Turris and Nick Foligno at this morning's practice, it would probably be foolish to dismiss Alfie's questionable status for game three. The captain's going to play.

It's somewhat ironic that the man who was plagued by injuries so often in the early stages of his career can recuperate

So cue the hysterics from Rangers fans who will inevitably question Alfie's health and integrity and use this opportunity to **** on Brendan Shanahan for suspending Carl Hagelin because of the uncertain extent of Alfie's head injury.

Suffice it to say, there are going to be a proportionate number of Senators fans who will regale their captain for his miraculously quick return to health. Some may even misappropriately refer to it as heroism.

Don't get me wrong, I will there with everyone else at SBP and chanting "Alfie! Alfie! Alfie!" when he takes the ice. Part of me is even hoping that he's the last one to take the ice or better yet, he takes the ice after everyone else and comes out with his own prepackaged video with a musical accompaniment - a la Mariano Rivera whenever he comes out for the save for the Yankees.

Yet, part of me has some concern for Alfie's health. Now I'm a not medical practitioner, nor do I have inside information pertaining to Alfredsson's symptoms or condition itself, nevertheless, it's difficult not to have some reservations about a player returning from a brain injury within forty-eight hours of its occurrence. Like it or not, as one of the team's few natural offensive talents, the target on his back just got a little bit bigger.
