Andrew Shaw had a pretty memorable piece of memorabilia from Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final, the night he and the Chicago Blackhawks won hockey’s biggest prize. The Chicago agitator, who was busted open early in Game 6, eventually returned to the ice with stitches under his right eye. Those stitches remained there for the rest of the game and the rest of the night, even as the blood continued to drip out while Shaw and the Hawks partied on the ice and in the dressing room. At some point in the days that followed, Shaw made the decision to auction off the actual stitches to benefit charity. Those sutures went to auction recently, and the haul was pretty good. CSN Chicago reports the stitches, which were auctioned on eBay, went for an astounding $6,500 after the bidding opened Aug. 15. Fittingly, the auction was won by Harry Caray’s Tavern on Navy Pier in Chicago. The money will be donated to cancer research. Filed under: Chicago Blackhawks, Headlines, NHL
