from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal, Pat Morris, who represents former Oilers defenceman Steve Staios, says the 38-year-old still wants to play in the NHL this upcoming season.
“He’s been training with all the young players at Matt Nichols’ camp in Toronto. I really think Steve could help a young team like the Islanders or Colorado (Avalanche). He played 23 of the last 27 games for Calgary last season, was an even-or plus-player in 18 of those games and had eight points.”
Staios, who has kids to enrol in school, likely wouldn’t take a training camp invite, but he has been around long enough to know that teams are always on the hunt for veteran defencemen. Something could occur this week.
