Darrel Powe, Johan Hedberg, Aaron Asham, also on waivers — Ryan Rishaug (@TSNRyanRishaug) July 4, 2013 Today, the Rangers placed forwards Arron Asham and Darroll Powe on regular waivers (not unconditional waivers required for buyout.) Asham has 1 year and 1 million dollars left on his contract that he signed with the Rangers last July 1st. Powe, acquired in a midseason trade with Minnesota in exchange for Mike Rupp, is coming into the final year of his deal and a cap hit of 1.06 million. To date, the Rangers have a shade over 14 million in cap space which would increase to 16 million if both players are claimed. It would also leave them with just 8 signed forwards on the roster. Too early to tell if this is nothing more than an attempt to shed salary out of necessity to resign RFA's  or if today's transactions are the tip of the iceberg to something much bigger.
