Pro Sports Daily:
Nashville defenseman Seth Jones fired the puck, and it ended up on the Avalanche bench, barely missing Nathan MacKinnon's head. Because the teenagers are friends — truly — MacKinnon could joke about it, even during the high-level emotionalism of Wednesday night's game at the Pepsi Center ... and a couple of days later too.
"I asked him if he was trying to take me out. He said it tipped off a player's stick," the Avalanche rookie center said Friday morning. He smiled and added, "I guess I'll believe him."
The two teenagers will be forever linked by their lottery-pick status in the 2013 draft, and the decision of the Avalanche, Florida and Tampa Bay to pass on Jones and select forwards instead. The Panthers claimed center Aleksander Barkov and the Lightning took left wing Jonathan Drouin, MacKinnon's linemate with major junior's Halifax Mooseheads. That left Jones, who spent a significant portion of his childhood in Denver, available for t...

Ryan Wilson's injury-plagued NHL career has taken another unfortunate turn.
The Avalanche defenseman, who missed much of last season because of ankle injuries and most of training camp and the early part of this season because of a knee injury, will now be lost to a back injury.
Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said Wilson will be out a minimum of two weeks with the latest injury...
On October 30th, the hockey world was shocked upon hearing that Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov would be spending the night in a Denver jail facing assault and kidnapping charges. Jean-Sebastien Giguere wasn't perfect, but he was good enough to keep the Colorado Avalanche rolling.
Giguere stopped 30 shots, Ryan O'Reilly had a goal and an assist and Colorado beat the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Friday night.
Paul Stastny, John Mitchell and Matt Duchene also scored for the Avalanche, who joined the 1995 Quebec Nordiques for the best 15-game start in franchise...
Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Patrick Roy is undoubtedly a player's coach. His Avalanche players are seemingly willing to run through walls for the rookie NHL bench boss who oozes passion and intensity.
It's infectious, and Avs fans are not immune. The Pepsi Center wasn't quite sold out Sunday but the excitement inside the building harkened memories of Roy's glory days...
The Colorado Avalanche are off to a soaring start, even if they pretend they're nothing more than an average team.
Little mind games in order to keep winning them.
''We're playing like we're a .500 hockey team and not a 14-2 team. That's the key,'' Matt Duchene said. ''You stay grounded and you stay humble and hungry.''
Evgeniya Vavrinyuk, the alleged victim of domestic violence that led to the arrest of Colorado Avalanche’s starting goaltender, Semyon Varlamov, was interviewed for the first time following his arrest yesterday and she did not paint a pretty picture.
Here is part of the Vavrinyuk interview:
Why did this happen?
“He has a problem with alcohol. I’m not saying he drinks often...
One of the top slogans for the Avalanche this season is: We don't lose two in a row.
After 15 games of their NHL season, the Avs still haven't. On Friday night before a near-sellout crowd at the Pepsi Center, the Avs won a thrilling 4-2 decision over the Calgary Flames to improve to 13-2.
"That's what we've been telling ourselves. We're doing our best to...
The Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals have thrived in different situations this season.
The Capitals have excelled on special teams with the NHL's best power play and an excellent penalty kill. The Avalanche have enjoyed most of their success in even-strength play with the league's third-best 5-on-5 goals for/against ratio of 1.70.

The second meeting of the season against the Washington Capitals and Colorado Avalanche is set to kick off at 8:00 PM EST on Sunday night.
Earlier this season the Avalanche marched over the Capitals by defeating them 5-1 at Verizon Center. The Capitals have won seven of their last ten games while the Avalanche has won eight of their last ten games.
Success against Eastern Conference teams is a big reason why the Colorado Avalanche are off to the best start in franchise history.
They'll try for a sixth consecutive victory over an East opponent Tuesday night and second this year over the Carolina Hurricanes, who have yet to beat a team from the West this season.
Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and an assist and Semyon Varlamov...
Rookie defenseman Seth Jones has had his share of ups and downs this season.
That's expected of a 19-year-old player not accustomed to the wear and tear of a full season in the National Hockey League. Make no mistake, there have been more positive moments than forgettable ones for Jones, but even he felt his demotion to the third defensive pair in a loss to the Winnipeg Jets...
When defeceman Seth Jones slipped to fourth overall in the 2013 NHL entry draft, Nashville Predators GM David Poile must have been licking his chops. The last time the Nashville Predators were in the Prudential Center they were euphoric because they got to take Seth Jones with the fourth overall pick in the NHL Draft. After Friday’s debacle in Winnipeg, the Preds needed a similar feeling.
They got the opposite.
In front of 12,964 at Prudential Center, the Devils out-talented the Predators, winning 5-0.
