On Monday afternoon, Darren Dreger of TSN reported that Sergei Kostitsyn had signed a two-year deal with the Predators. Kostitsyn will get $3 million for each of the two seasons after previously filing for arbitration. Had the two teams not settled on a new contract, an arbitration hearing would have been held on August 2nd.

The news of Kostitsyn re-signing with the Predators is the first bit of good news this offseason for the organization. Since July 1st, the Predators have seen all-star defenseman Ryan Suter sign with Minnesota as an unrestricted free agent, as well as Jordin Tootoo leaving for Detroit. Now, Nashville has until Wednesday to make a decision as to whether or not they will match an offer sheet that captain Shea Weber signed with the Philadelphia Flyers.  If the Predators do not match the 14-year, $100 million deal, Weber will be a Flyer and the Predators will received four 1st round draft picks as compensation.

Kostitsyn has played two previous seasons with the Predators after his rights where traded to Nashville by Montreal before the start of the 2010-2011 NHL season. For most of last season, the forward played on the top line with Mike Fisher and Martin Erat posting 17 goals and adding 26 assists for 43 points in 75 games.
