Going into the Tuesday night contest in Denver, Colorado, the Avalanche and the Blackhawks were both on five game losing streaks. After a solid overall performance by the Burgundy and Blue, the Avs topped the now free falling Hawks 5-2. It was the first time the team scored five or more goals since November 30th with a 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils. The worst part about the Avalanche’s recent losing streak is that they lost all five games by only a goal, including a shootout loss on Saturday, in which the team was ahead going into the final minute of the third period. The win gives the Avs 57 points, only one point out of the final playoff spot in the Western conference. The top two lines provided the scoring for the Avalanche on Tuesday night against the Hawks. A revamped first line included Ryan O’Reilly, Peter Mueller and Gabriel Landeskog. The second line included Paul Stastny, Milan Hejduk and David Jones. Blackhawks Might Actually Be Looking For A Goaltender After All

The recent struggles of the Chicago Blackhawks are well-documented. They’re bad. The team has had issues on both ends of the ice, with the more glaring issue obviously being on the blue line. Those issues on defense came to the forefront when they gave up odd man rush after odd man rush against the Colorado Avalanche in their 5-2 loss on Tuesday. Yet, as much talk as there...

The Hot Seat: Joel Quenneville

The Blackhawks have dropped six games straight, only gaining a single point during the their worst stretch of the season against the Canucks on the first game of a nine game road trip. The last four games have been spent on the road with no success; outscored by the opposition 17-to-9 so far. Heck, the six game skid has only highlighted the Blackhawks problems, but in reality they...

Brunette a game-time call for Blackhawks

DENVER -- With typical hockey-injury vagueness, Andrew Brunette categorized his recent affliction as part of the "bumps and bruises" all players endure during a season.

Sam Gagner making a challenge to Paul Stastny's domain

We all know that Paul Stastny is master of the universe, but I mean, come on. Sam Gagner has to be making a push, right? Three signs that he is making a push to usurp Stastny's rule.1) See Above. That is his war cry, and associated battle charge. Stick out like a spear.2) In his last 5 games, Gagner has 8 goals and 7 assists (making a pace better than the entire Minnesota Wild...

Video of Matt Duchene skating today

Here is some video yours truly shot today of Matt Duchene at the Avs’ practice facility. Keep in mind, I ain’t no Martin Scorsese, but what do you want from me. I have a brief story on how he looked up on the Post’s main site, but will let you see for yourself how he looked today. The first one of him is doing mostly figure-8s: The other one is just more regular skating:

Gabriel Landeskog broke a tie 38 seconds into the third period and David Jones added two goals, helping the Colorado Avalanche snap a five-game skid.
