The No. 52 jersey of former Avalanche defenseman Adam Foote has been retired in a ceremony before Colorado's game against the Montreal Canadiens. A banner with Foote's name and number was raised to the rafters at the Pepsi Center at the conclusion of the ceremony on Saturday night. Foote joins Joe Sakic (19), Peter Forsberg (21), Patrick Roy (33) and Ray Borque (77) in having his jersey retired by the Avalanche. Sakic is a team executive and Roy is in his first season as its coach. Foote spent 19 years in the NHL, including 17 with the Avalanche and the Quebec Nordiques, the Colorado team's predecessor. He retired after the 2010-11 season as the second-highest scoring defenseman in franchise history. He was a member of two Stanley Cup winning teams and represented Canada in three Olympics, winning a gold medal in 2002.

Are the Avalanche For Real?

One of the early season surprises in the NHL has been the Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche are currently 10 – 1 – 0 on the young campaign and their 20 points is the league’s second highest total behind San Jose’s 21. They have a +19 goal differential, also second best behind San Jose, and suggests their early season success is no fluke. No one truthfully expects Colorado...

Early Coach Of The Year

I don't think that Patrick Roy is a particularly good technical coach.  Most other NHL coaches can strategize and match lines better than he can.  That doesn't mean that he hasn't been a successful coach so far this season.  He has created the positive atmosphere in Colorado where the team is exceeding expectations.  The Colorado Avalanche have an outstanding and...
