He appeared in 28 regular-season games last year, posting a record of 15-11-2, a goals against average of 2.53, and a save percentage of .910. In November 2008, Berkhoel boasted a team-record shutout streak of 202:44 with three consecutive clean sheets, just 47 minutes shy of the AHL shutout streak record.
