Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk is close to making a return, but he’s not there quite yet apparently. Boston head coach Claude Julien wouldn’t rule out the possibility Friday afternoon that Boychuk could return against the Colorado Avalanche. However, Boychuk’s lower-body injury will keep him out at least one more game. Boychuk won’t be in the lineup as the B’s take on the Avs on Friday night in Denver. The veteran blueliner practiced Thursday and skated with the team during Friday’s morning skate. However, there’s no need to rush him back after he suffered the injury crashing into the boards and then blocking a shot almost a week ago against Carolina. Matt Bratkowski is expected to be back in the fold, though. Bartkowski was a healthy scratch Tuesday in New Jersey, which allowed Corey Potter to make his Bruins debut. Potter is headed back to the press box, though, and Bartkowski is back in the mix for the Black and Gold. Up front, everything remains the same for the Bruins ...

Bruins Score Three Times In Third Period, Extend Win Streak To 12 Games (Video)

The Boston Bruins’ win streak was in danger of being snapped on Saturday night, but the team persevered and scored three third-period goals to win 4-2 and extend their historic run to 12 games. Shawn Thornton’s goal at 16:42 of the third period proved to be the difference. He tipped a shot from linemate Daniel Paille past Coyotes goaltender Mike Smith for his fifth goal of the...

Bruins clinch playoff spot with win over Avalanche

The Bruins became the first team in the NHL to clinch a playoff spot, as Chad Johnson picked up a hard-earned shutout with a 2-0 victory over the Avalanche. The win was Boston’s 11th straight, while it was the team’s seventh straight playoff berth. The win streak is Boston’s third-longest, as the B’s are three away from the 14 in a row they won in 1929-30. Tying that will...

Bruins Working To Find ‘Delicate Balance’ When Resting Players

The Boston Bruins are in a very enviable spot. They’re playing their best hockey of the season with the playoffs right around the corner, and they also have a pretty sizable lead in their division. That should allow the Bruins to make some important lineup decisions down the stretch. That should likely include making the call to rest various players for some of the remaining regular...

Bruins Create Scoring Chances With Great Energy From Second Line (Video)

Even after Patrice Bergeron opened the scoring for the Boston Bruins in the first period of Saturday’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes, the B’s second line kept attacking and created great scoring chances. Bergeron’s linemates Brad Marchand and Reilly Smith won puck battles along the boards, played physical and were tenacious in front of the net. It’s been the Bruins’...

Mario Lemieux Scores First Career Goal During NESN’s First-Ever Bruins Broadcast (Video)

NESN is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2014, and on March 21, 1984, the network broadcast its first Boston Bruins game. The B’s took on the Pittsburgh Penguins that night, and a rookie forward (and future Hall of Famer) named Mario Lemieux scored his first career goal on his first shot. Despite Lemieux’s stellar performance, Boston was able to earn the victory. Check out...

Bruins’ Difficult Schedule About To Get Even Tougher

The Boston Bruins entered the month of March knowing that they would have to play 17 games in 30 days (they’re off March 31), which meant they would get one heckuva test. They’ve passed that test so far, as the B’s have won 10 of their 11 games in March. However, the 10-game winning streak has come at the hands of teams that aren’t exactly world-beaters. That’s not to take...

Johnson stones 31 to shut out Avs, Bruins run winning streak to 11

Boston Bruins' centerman Patrice Bergeron beats Colorado defenseman Nick Holden to start Boston's scoringIt seems that the recipe for beating the Boston Bruins is to skate fast, beat them to the pucks on the boards and to goad them into stupid penalties that cause them to be short-handed.But for it to work, especially during their machine-like ten game winning streak, it...

Bruins-Avs Highlights (Video)

Photo via usatoday.com     The Bruins extended their winning streak to a "Soup-erb" 11 games Friday night, while becoming the first team to shut out the Colorado Avalanche all season, and claiming the league's first playoff spot.      In doing so, they also tied St. Louis for the best record in the league. See the highlights from Friday's game below, but be...

Bruins fight off Coyotes, 4-2

Things looked dicey there for a while, but the Bruins pull out a 4-2 win over the Coyotes. The Bruins were slow out of the gates for the second straight game while getting outshot by a 15-7 margin in the first period. Patrice Bergeron opened the scoring on a play gift-wrapped by Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith, who tried to make a stretch pass in traffic from the crease. Instead Andrej...

Bruins-Coyotes Live: Streaking B’s Invade Desert To Tangle With Phoenix

12:30 p.m.: It’s been exactly three weeks since the Boston Bruins lost a game, and they’re hoping that they can’t extend that a little bit longer. The B’s will put their 11-game winning streak on the line Saturday night when they pay a visit to the Phoenix Coyotes. Boston, who extended its winning streak Friday in Colorado, is looking for its second win over the Coyotes...

Vezina Trophy Leader

In January, I picked Ben Bishop of the Tampa Bay Lightning as the Vezina Trophy leader.  He surpassed Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins for that honor.  Rask has taken the lead again.  Rask is posting a .929 saves percentage and a 2.07 GAA.  No goalie who is his team's number one this season has better numbers in either category. Rask is a talented goalie and at age 27...
