BOSTON — Ryan Spooner is back in town, and he’s not here to watch hockey.
Spooner was recalled by the Bruins on Thursday morning from Providence, and the 21-year-old will make his season debut against the Anaheim Ducks at TD Garden.
Bruins coach Claude Julien said that the B’s are looking for a little more speed and athleticism up front, and the thought is that Spooner can provide that. He was one of the club’s best players during training camp, but a logjam at center — his natural position — as well as contractual situations dictated Spooner would start the season in Providence.
Julien would not reveal, however, who Spooner would replace in the Bruins lineup. That information will likely come from pregame warmups, assuming Julien isn’t making this a true gametime decisions.
Anaheim’s Teemu Selanne will not play for the Ducks. He’s back in California after taking a stick to the face earlier in the week. The 43-year-old is expected to miss two weeks.

Johnny Boychuk via csnne.comThursday night’s win over Anaheim came with a big loss. Being considered day-to-day, Johnny Boychuk left in the second period of that game with an undisclosed injury. Boychuk crashed hard into the boards and after getting off the ice wasn’t able to return to action. This led to big time minutes being played by the younger group of the Bruin’s...

After one period, the Boston Bruins (8-4-0) looked like their pregame meal was a pillow case full of candy. Boston’s play in the first was anything but sweet however, as the entire team was sluggish and it showed in the way they forechecked, backchecked...
It’s not quite a playoff beard, but Bruins fans should get used to seeing a little extra facial hair on the B’s in the coming days.
As they have in the past, the Bruins will once again be taking part in Movember. The initiative is set up to raise money for men’s health issues, and it calls on participants to grow mustaches for the entire month of November. All told, 10 Bruins...
Cam Neely may or may not be making an appearance in the upcoming sequel to Dumb and Dumber, but the Bruins president is making his return to the acting game in another fashion.
The Hall of Famer, who played a small cameo role in the 1994 classic Dumb and Dumber, is back in front of the camera for an NBC Sports commercial promoting the Thanksgiving Showdown. The spot, which features...
Halloween is right around the corner, and a few members of the Boston Bruins got some early trick-or-treating in at the Children’s Hospital of Boston earlier in the week.
Matt Bartkowski, Dougie Hamilton and Reilly Smith made the rounds dressed up as a pirate, a baby and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, to bring smiles to the faces of s few young fans.

NBC’s promotion for the annual Thanksgiving Showdown has begun, and it includes two former stars who Bruins and Rangers fans know and love in Cam Neely and Mike Richter.
The first promo about the Bruins and Rangers’ matinee game on November 29 at TD Garden has been released, and it features two families, one that roots for Boston and the other for New York, trying to have a peaceful...
The NHL has given Buffalo's John Scott a seven-game suspension for his hit to the head of Boston's Loui Eriksson back on October 23rd. The league determined that Scott's hit to Eriksson's head was severe enough to warrant a large punishment even though the forward has no previous history of NHL discipline. Scott has already served three games while waiting for his...
UCLA has an extremely talented football team in 2013, but right now, the Bruins have hit a rough patch. UCLA climbed as high as ninth in AP Poll to start the season, but has now suffered back-to-back to losses to very good Stanford and Oregon teams. The major issue in the two losses was the offense — the Bruins only scored 24 points in the two games combined.

Boston humbled the mighty Pens last spring, and Zdeno Chara pushed Sidney Crosby around the ice like a bully kicking sand on the 98-pound weakling. Key offensive players like Crosby, Jarome Iginla, Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin were all bottled up by the Bruins defense, and Pittsburgh had no answer to Boston’s physicality once the puck dropped for...
Dealing with their first losing streak of the near month-old NHL season, and on the second leg of a back-to-back that began last night in Pittsburgh, the Boston Bruins simply had to be better. Outside of the play of goaltender Tuukka Rask, which has by all means been a constant of excellence throughout the season, there was absolutely nothing to be satisfied with when it came to...
The Pittsburgh Penguins stared down some of their demons on Wednesday during a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins.
There were times during the game I wondered if the refs had eyes or knew what a penalty was as both sides got away with a lot of questionable play, but the Pens were able to capitalize on their opportunities and come away with the victory. The truth is for at...
The last time these two teams faced one another, only one of them showed up for the games. Will it be different tonight? Will anyone in Boston be watching with game six of the World Series taking place?

(EDITOR'S NOTE: It is HILARIOUS to see Jon bash Crosby. Jon has been giving Crosby reach arounds without question for years)

Keeping the puck out of their own net continues to be a problem for the New York Islanders.
It certainly has been in recent games against the Boston Bruins.
The Islanders overcame those defensive deficiencies for one game and will try to win two straight for the first time this season Saturday night against the visiting Bruins.
A determined effort by the Islanders on Friday at...
