That is the case this afternoon for the New York Rangers as they get set to take on the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are coming off a 4-3 overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night in Tampa. The Rangers were able to come away with a point because Brandon Dubinsky scored the game-tying goal with 3:27 to play in the third period. Up until that goal, it had been an up and down performance for the Blueshirts. They were able to generate several good scoring opportunities, get goals from the likes of Artem Anisimov, Marian Gaborik and Dubinsky while also getting a solid game from Henrik Lundqvist (27 saves) on his birthday. With that said, the team was a bit inconsistent defensively and allowed the Lightning to get into the slot way too often and force the puck in on Lundqvist. In fact, the Rangers were outshot by a 13-3 margin in the opening period. This afternoon against the Bruins, the Rangers will go up against a much bigger team with grittier ...

Inside Dubinsky’s stats: shooting percentage and shots

To say Brandon Dubinsky is having an off-year would be an understatement. Outside of his boneheaded penalties of late, most focus on his anemic goal total and his offensive contribution, and with good reason. Dubinsky is making $4.2 million for the next three seasons following the 2011-2012 campaign, and he has contributed just seven goals and 26 points in 60 games this year. While...

Brandon Du-bench-sky*

*-I would like to thank my friend Jim Schmiedeberg for today’s title. He tweeted it last night, and I ran with it for the post today. Last night Brandon Dubinsky committed another stupid penalty when he grabbed a stray stick on the ice and threw it in the corner. It is not the first stupid penalty he has committed, it is not the second stupid penalty he has committed, it isn...

Dubinsky Forces Tortorella Change of Heart

Before last night's game, John Tortorella was still fuming about Brandon Dubinsky's stick throwing stunt Thursday night saying this (via Bergen Record)..."I thought it was, quite honestly, just a ridiculous penalty, at a time of the season, when you've got 20 games left that we need to be working on other things as far as details than that nonsense. And, quite honestly...

Vezina Trophy watch: Comparing John Vanbiesbrouck to Henrik Lundqvist

Henrik Lundqvist may be the most popular candidate so far for the Vezina Trophy. And it’s no surprise with his eight shutouts, and being on the leader board for wins (4th-30), save percentage (1st-.939) and goals against (2nd-1.79). Henrik Lundqvist is having a career season in a pursuit for the Vezina Trophy. Does he compare to John Vanbiesbrouck's 1986 playoff...

Lundqvist Tapes HBO Real Sports

Here's a pic of Henrik Lundqvist being interviewed by Bryant Gumbel after yesterday's 4-3 win over Boston for a segment on HBO Real Sports which will air on March 20th......does Lundqvist ever not look good.H/T to reader @scrubs2010.Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at ...

What Was Dubinsky Thinking?

You would think after Michael Del Zotto's throwing the stick penalty against the Islanders last week, Brandon Dubinsky would have learned not to touch another players stick. Instead he did this last night...Which obviously led to a misconduct penalty for the Rangers forward and the Hurricanes scoring on the ensuing power play. John Tortorella, who was not amused by the stunt...

Rangers/Bolts recap

The Rangers lost a tough one tonight, 4-3 to the Lightning in overtime.  The Blueshirts looked tired and we generally outplayed by Tampa for the better part of the game.  Henrik Lundqvist played very well and Brandon Dubinsky made a return to the score sheet.  No one likes to lose but there were definitely some positive takeaways from this one.  To the bullets… 1st Period...

Video: New York Rangers Casino Night

The New York Rangers held their annual Garden of Dreams Casino Night last week at Gotham Hall, and Blueshirts United did a terrific job catching the action on video for those who did not attend. I was not there, but I know some of you were, so feel free to share your experience in the comments as well.  Here's the video: - Henrik Lundqvist and...

Thomas Blames MSG Lights for Poor Performance

CBS Sports Boston reports that Tim Thomas blamed the dim lighting at MSG for his less than stellar performance (just 13 saves on 17 shots) during the Rangers 4-3 over Boston yesterday. When asked if he is ready for the increased workload that awaits if backup Tuukka Rask is injured significantly, Thomas responded..."Yeah. Especially if I go to an arena with lights."Henrik...

And the Rangers draft…

Over the next few weeks attention will naturally be on the Rangers sprint towards the finish line, a possible President’s trophy and home advantage in the playoffs; as it should be. However we like to do things a little different here from time to time. Why are the Rangers looking at the President’s trophy? Good drafting that’s why. The current roster is littered with Rangers...

Rangers Beat Bruins: Recap

Game day started well for the Rangers as Michael Del Zotto and Ruslan Fedotenko were both restored to the line-up to face the Bruins in the nationally televised matinee. Following that good news was a dandy of a match between two quality clubs. The Rangers were outplayed for two periods but stuck with it, refused to buckle and have a certain goaltender from Sweden in net. The Rangers...

Second Look: February 27th - March 4th

The past 7 days of Devils hockey was, well, in a sense, hellish. New Jersey had a 1-2-1 record in 4 games played against 4 very difficult NHL clubs in the Rangers, Bruins, Capitals, and Islanders yesterday afternoon. The Devils one victory would be the third game of the week after losing two straight; an Atlantic Division rival matchup between the Rangers in MSG, in which the game...

Pregame: Rangers Host Bruins in MSG Matinee

Getty The New York Rangers have held first place in the Eastern Conference for several months now, and the Boston Bruins have trailed them in second place for the entire time. Within that span the two teams have met twice at TD Garden in Boston, and the Rangers came away victorious in both. The four points collected in those two wins have come in handy for the Blueshirts...

Pregame: Rangers Going For Four in Tampa Bay

AP The Rangers defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2, last night in Raleigh to improve to 41-15-6 on the season and earn their 88th point in the Eastern Conference standings. With 62 games now in the books after Thursday's victory, only 20 remain on the regular season schedule as the Blueshirts get closer and closer to clinching a playoff spot. Tonight they will be looking...
