For almost 36 minutes, it looked like the Blackhawks were shooting at a brick wall. But a lucky bounce got the Hawks on the board, and a great team effort kept the Blackhawks’ record perfect on the young season. American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas
Chicago comes into this game as one of the top offensive teams in the league (though it’s just three games) with an average of 4.7 goals per game.
That hot start can mostly be attributed to the play of Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews...
DALLAS (AP) -- Jamie Benn and the Dallas Stars have agreed to a 26.25 million, five-year contract.
The team announced the move Thursday night. The All-Star center gets 5.25 million each season, with the first year of the deal pro-rated because of the NHL lockout.
The 23-year-old Benn was a restricted free agent who set career highs with 26 goals, 37 assists and 63 points for Dallas...
The longer that Jamie Benn goes unsigned in Dallas, the more the Stars are being inundated with a variety of inquiries about whether the team would consider trading his rights. That's just how it goes, as teams try to feel out what it would take to land the burgeoning first-line center and the Stars at least formulate backup plans in case someone blows them away with an offer...
Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg scored to back Corey Crawford, and the Chicago Blackhawks hung on to beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Tuesday night.
The Blackhawks looked sharp in their home opener after impressive wins at defending champion Los Angeles and Phoenix, the team that knocked them out of the playoffs in the first round last season.

Lehtonen was brilliant tonight (40 saves), only giving up 1 goal to Damien Brunner with 4 seconds left in the game.
Jimmy Howard was very good, but the Stars made the most of their opportunities to defeat Detroit 2-1.
One stat stands-out to me, the Wings are 0-15 on the pp over their first three games (0-4 tonight).
After yesterday's revelation that they were using their empty seats as a humor device, the Dallas Stars have now turned in a direction I was not expecting. They are now inventing players for their press releases!
Even children's books are incredulous.
No, Tasha Pym, we have never seen a Sneep.
Shame on you, Dallas Stars. Shame. On. You.
The Dallas Stars did some things well last night but were unable to slam the door on the undefeated Chicago Blackhawks after building an early 2-0 lead. As a result of some missed scoring chances when there was a chance to put the game away, followed by late penalty trouble and inability to kill the penalties, the Stars skated off with a 3-2 overtime loss and settled for one point...
Final - Overtime
Dallas Stars 2 – Chicago Blackhawks 3
Dallas was both unlucky and very fortunate to get at least a point in this game. Chicago dominated possession of the puck and put enormous pressure on Kari Lehtonen the entire game. The Stars couldn’t stay out of the penalty box and that, in the end, was the difference in the game as the Hawks scored three power play...
Now that the Dallas Stars finally have reached a contract agreement with their star player, they can devote their full attention to what's happening on the ice.
Jamie Benn likely won't be around, though, to try and help contain Blues rookie sensation Vladimir Tarasenko.

DETROIT -- He didn't get the shutout, but Kari Lehtonen got the win. Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a his 22nd career whitewashing, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night. Rookie Damien Brunner ruined Lehtonen's shutout attempt by scoring his first...
CHICAGO -- The Madhouse on Madison Street was packed with 21,455 fans and the Blackhawks didn't disappoint their faithful, defeating the St. Louis Blues 3-2 in Chicago's lockout-delayed home opener at the United Center.
