Thousands of hockey-starved fans rocked the Garden on Saturday night, welcoming the Bruins back to the ice after a nine-month layoff. The crowd’s enthusiasm could be felt by the players, said B’s defenseman Johnny Boychuk, who celebrated his 29th birthday with his first goal of the 2013 season. Boychuk’s third-period blast was the final tally in Boston’s 3-1 victory over the Rangers in the season opener for both teams. The blueliner also praised the play of goalie Tuuka Rask, who after allowing seven goals in the Black and Gold scrimmage against Providence earlier this week was beaten just once by New York. “Compared to the last game we played against Providence, it was a totally different goalie out there,” Boychuk said. “That’s why he’s our No. 1. He was ready tonight and he’s going to be ready all year. He just had an excellent game and it was nice to see him get a win under his belt.” Check out Boychuk’s full interview from Ace Ticket Presents Bruins Overtime LIVE in the video above.
