It wasn’t the prettiest performance that we’ve seen from the Blackhawks this year, but the important part is that they managed two points in their shootout win over the Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
The Hawks got off to a fast start, but that effort appeared to fade as the game went on. A sloppy third period saw the puck in the Chicago end most of the time, leading to the game becoming much closer than it likely should have been.
Jonathan Toews got the scoring started early, with a tip-in goal after Andrew Brunette forced a turnover. Though the Hawks were outshot 15-7 in the period, Florida didn’t mount too many great chances against Corey Crawford, who was solid all night.
Outside of the Toews goal, the only action in the first period was the fight between Jamal Mayers and Matt Bradley. After Mayers took exception to a late hit from Bradley, the two dropped the gloves and Mayers continued to prove he’s not one to be messed with in this Blackhawks lineu...
