The Chicago Blackhawks and defenseman Steve Montador have agreed on a four-year, $11 million deal.
Chicago acquired Montador's rights Wednesday from Buffalo in exchange for a seventh-round pick in 2012 or 2013. Montador was set to become a free agent at 12 p.m. ET on Friday.
The 31-year-old had a career-best 21 assists with five goals last season while leading the Sabres with a plus-16 rating. He has played nine seasons with five different teams, and has 28 goals and 89 assists for his career.
Montador will help aid the loss of defenseman Brian Campbell, who was traded last week to Florida.
