With their offense leading the way in victories over top-tier competition, the Chicago Blackhawks are feeling pretty good about the way the season has started.
The Dallas Stars haven't been quite as impressive, but they are also optimistic with the direction they're headed.
The high-powered Blackhawks look to open with a fourth straight win Thursday night when they visit a Stars team trying to build on an encouraging victory.
After emphatic wins over Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles and defending Pacific Division champion Phoenix, Chicago defeated the Central Division champs with a 3-2 victory over St. Louis in Tuesday's home opener. Patrick Kane, Brent Seabrook and Viktor Stalberg all scored for the Blackhawks, who have opened with three wins for the first time since beginning 4-0-0 in 1972-73.
"There are a lot of positive things that you could look at our game right now and say we're doing things well in certain areas,'' captain Jonathan Toews said...

For almost 36 minutes, it looked like the Blackhawks were shooting at a brick wall. But a lucky bounce got the Hawks on the board, and a great team effort kept the Blackhawks’ record perfect on the young season. DALLAS (AP) -- Jamie Benn and the Dallas Stars have agreed to a 26.25 million, five-year contract.
The team announced the move Thursday night. The All-Star center gets 5.25 million each season, with the first year of the deal pro-rated because of the NHL lockout.

Dallas Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen was a one man wrecking crew against the Detroit Red Wings last night. In the Wings home opener, Lehtonen stopped 39 of 40 shots, and was actually 3.4 seconds away from getting a shutout. This would have been the Wings first shutout loss in their home opener since 1947.Damien Brunner recorded his first NHL goal off this beautiful pass from Pavel...
Paul here for George who hope to return by Thursay...
Lehtonen was brilliant tonight (40 saves), only giving up 1 goal to Damien Brunner with 4 seconds left in the game.
Jimmy Howard was very good, but the Stars made the most of their opportunities to defeat Detroit 2-1.
One stat stands-out to me, the Wings are 0-15 on the pp over their first three games (0-4 tonight).
It seems everybody has a Manti Te’o joke to crack these days. The art of Te’oing has also, begrudgingly, become a thing people do as well. The concept is simple, in that a guy poses with his invisible girlfriend and posts the picture of the fictitious couple on the Internet for all to have a good laugh about.
It’s one thing for regular Joes to do it, but what about when an...

Kari Lehtonen was just a few seconds away from picking up his first shutout of the 2013 season, against the Detroit Red Wings no less. It wasn’t in the cards for the Dallas Stars goalie, though, as Damien Brunner scored with 3.4 seconds left to ruin the shutout.
That’s a bummer, sure, but at least the Stars came away with a 2-1 win. Apparently Red Wings fans sitting near the...
After yesterday's revelation that they were using their empty seats as a humor device, the Dallas Stars have now turned in a direction I was not expecting. They are now inventing players for their press releases!
Even children's books are incredulous.
No, Tasha Pym, we have never seen a Sneep.
Shame on you, Dallas Stars. Shame. On. You.
DETROIT -- He didn't get the shutout, but Kari Lehtonen got the win. Lehtonen came within less than four seconds of a his 22nd career whitewashing, making 39 saves, and Michael Ryder scored both goals in the Dallas Stars' 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday night.
