The Chicago Blackhawks had another disastrous third period but were able to overcome it.
Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp scored in the shootout to lift the Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Panthers on Tuesday night at BB&T Arena in Sunrise Fla.
Toews and Bryan Bickell scored in regulation and Corey Crawford earned the win after the Hawks coughed up a two-goal third-period lead for the third time this season but came out on top to improve to 6-1-2 on the season. With the win in the first of a two-game road trip to the Sunshine State the Hawks extended their points streak to six consecutive contests.
Dmitry Kulikov and Tomas Fleishmann scored for the Panthers but it wasn’t enough as Jacob Markstrom suffered the loss in goal after replacing the injured Tim Thomas.
After a scoreless first period during which the Hawks out shot the Panthers 12-6 Toews struck early in the second to put the defending Stanley Cup champions in front.
