DALLAS -- Marian Hossa scored 1:41 into overtime as the Chicago Blackhawks (4-0-0) remained unbeaten with a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars (2-1-1) before 17,868 fans at American Airlines Center. Hossa's goal came 1:41 after Chicago went on the power play for a seventh time in the game after Stars captain Brenden Morrow was called for interference 22 seconds into the extra frame. It was the Blackhawks' third power-play goal of the game. "It was obviously a great play by Patrick Kane," Hossa said. "I saw him wide open there and when he didn't have a shot, as soon as he turned around I tried to get open because he sees the ice really well, even behind him. "Lost battles and turnovers," was what Stars head coach Glen Gulutzan chalked the loss up to. "Those (a 41-23 shot differential) are a byproduct of lost battles and turnovers." Dallas took a 1-0 lead to the first intermission when Loui Eriksson scored a shorthanded goal with 1.4 seconds left. The Stars then had a great chance to double their advantage in the second period when Ryan Garbutt was awarded a penalty shot but his backhanded attempt was denied by Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford. The Stars went ahead 2-0 at 10:41 of the second when Ray Whitney knocked a backhand past Crawford for his second goal of the year. But Chicago's Patrick Sharp made it a one-goal game at 15:57 of the second when he scored on the power play. Sharp's second goal of the year landed in the back of the Dallas net after deflecting off the stick of Stars' defenseman Trevor Daley. Chicago got stellar performances from several of their more high-profile players. Sharp had a goal and an assist while Kane assisted in two of the Blackhawks' three goals. The 4-0-0 start by Chicago is the franchise's best since 1972-73, when the club also started the season with four straight victories. Dallas nearly regained a two-goal lead with one second left in the second period when an Alex Goligoski slap shot looked poised to go in before Chicago's Duncan Keith cleared it away from the visiting goal. "Yeah, it was a big win for us," Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said. "We didn't change too much our approach, drew some penalties and the power play cashed in." Stars forward Jaromir Jagr left the game late in the third period with an undisclosed injury but Gulutzan didn't think his injury was serious. Dallas goaltender Kari Lehtonen stopped 38 of the 41 shots he faced while Crawford denied 21 of the 23 Stars attempts he faced. "(He was) unbelievable, the only reason we got a point was because of him," Gulutzan said of Lehtonen. "Got outplayed all night but our goalie was real good." NOTES: On Wednesday afternoon, Dallas recalled center Tomas Vincour from Texas of the AHL. Prior to being recalled, Vincour had 19 points (7-12-19) in 39 AHL games. ... Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville played against Dallas RW Jaromir Jagr in his 1990 NHL debut. Quenneville was then with the Capitals while Jagr was with the Penguins. ... During the second period, the Stars announced they had agreed to terms with center Jamie Benn, a 2012 All-Star and a restricted free agent. Benn was Dallas' second-leading scorer last season and could rejoin the club as soon as Saturday, when they host St. Louis. ... Left wing Loui Eriksson scored a short-handed goal with 1.4 seconds left in the first period, Dallas' first short-handed tally of the season. Eriksson led the Stars with two short-handed goals last season. ... The Blackhawks were held scoreless in the first period for the first time this season.
