NHL: What the Anaheim Ducks Need to Do to Make the Playoffs

At this point in the regular season the Anaheim Ducks are still anything but a playoff contender. Though a recent streak of 4-0-1 has at least landed them a spot on the radar and put some distance between themselves and the trade rumors that have followed them. If anything is true about the post Stanley Cup Anaheim Ducks' teams it's that they play a tremendous second half...

The Anaheim Ducks Showcase New Found Confidence in Win Over Canucks

By Steve Palumbo (@StevePalumboNHL) If there wasn’t a hockey textbook on playing road games before, there is one now after the Anaheim Ducks defeated the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 at the Rogers Center. Anaheim played a perfect road game while Jason Blake did the rest to pace the Ducks to their fifth win in the last six games. Blake picked up two goals and an assist in the victory...

Stars tripped up by Stastny, Avalanche

Outside a familiarly quiet locker room after the Anaheim Ducks' 3-1 loss to San Jose on January 4th, Head Coach Bruce Boudreau spoke of seeing something in his team's effort after a third period in which they outshot the division leaders 16-7 in the third period, hitting two posts and doing seemingly everything right except for getting a couple past red hot goaltender Antti...

Ducks Third Line Thrashes Canucks, 4-2

The Ducks finished up a three game Canadian jaunt with a 4-2 win over the Canucks.  That gives Anaheim a total of 11 out of 12 points in their past six games. Not bad for a team that could not string together more than a win every couple of weeks.  Still not good enough to climb out of 29th in the NHL.  But it certainly is progress. The Ducks third line was huge in the defeat of...

Another Ryan Getzlaf Rookie Hit? Don't Mind If I Do.

A quick post today on another awesome and cheap eBay pickup for my Ryan Getzlaf PC. I snagged this '05-'06 Fleer Hot Prospects jersey swatch of the Ducks' Captain for 99 cents plus shipping off of the Bay.I love the bright orange swatch, the old-school third jerseys, and the action shot of Getz looking to dish the puck. Yes, it is a photo shoot jersey piece, but I like...

Ducks gaining confidence, finally

Anaheim, the Pacific Division's worst team, has suddenly become its hottest squad. They are 5-0-1 in their last six, turning a woeful 10-22-6 record into a 16-22-7 mark. "We wanted to start climbing up, find some hot streak right now and go from there," veteran winger Teemu Selanne told FOX Sports after Anaheim's 7-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. "I...

Hiller and Ducks Shut Out Edmonton, 5-0

Apparently the Ducks arrived in Canada sooner than their offense.  While they were unable to generate any goals in a 1-0 overtime loss to Calgary, the offense finally caught up with the team in Edmonton.  It was worth the wait.  Facing an Oilers team that has been burdened with injuries to young, productive players, the Ducks happily trounced on them with a 5-0 shut out.  The...

A Bit Of A Disagreement In Vancouver

from Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun, After Sunday night’s lacklustre 4-2 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Vigneault was asked what was wrong with Kesler, whose numbers are down this season and in more than 19 minutes of ice time Sunday night failed to register a shot on goal. “I think he has to use the players around him a little bit more so that he can get into open space and create...

Lidstrom, Selanne can’t get a break

The Ottawa Sun’s Ken Warren suggests that the NHL shouldn’t have allowed Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom and Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne to have skipped the All-Star game, arguing that both players are guilty of dereliction of duties which both players must fulfill: Most of the time, Nicklas Lidstrom and Teemu Selanne deserve the utmost respect. They are two of...

Ducks Have Chance to Make Statement Against the West Best Canucks

AP By Steve Palumbo (@StevePalumboNHL) The Anaheim Ducks have an opportunity to prove their disappointing first half was just a fluke. A road victory tonight over the Vancouver Canucks may be the final spark the Ducks need to catch fire. The suddenly competitive Ducks are 4-0-1 in their last five after destroying the banged up Edmonton Oilers 5-0 on Friday. However, the Canucks...

Possible Player Movement

from Eric Francis of the Calgary Sun, • While Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray has said the 41-year-old and Finnish teammate Saku Koivu are the only two untouchables on his squad, Selanne refused to confirm his plan is to end his career with the Ducks or that he’d turn down a chance to be a Jet again. “We still have time to go,” said Selanne, whose team will likely be all-but...

Ducks-Canucks Preview
