The St. Louis Blues shored up their defense by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract with unrestricted free agent defenseman Kent Huskins. The deal was announced Saturday, the second day of NHL free agency. Huskins, 32, played in 50 games for the San Jose Sharks last season, recording two goals and eight assists. He missed 32 regular-season games and 13 more in the playoffs because of an undisclosed upper body injury. Huskins had three goals and a career-best 22 points with the Sharks in the 2009-10 season. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound left-handed defenseman won the Stanley Cup while playing for the Anaheim Ducks in 2007. In five NHL seasons, the last two with the Sharks, he has 11 goals and 49 assists.
