The St. Louis Blues have added depth at forward, signing veteran Brenden Morrow to a one-year contract.
The 34-year-old Morrow had six goals and eight assists in his final 15 regular-season games with Pittsburgh, which had acquired him from Dallas at the trade deadline. The Blues made the announcement Monday on their website. Multiple reports say the deal is for $1.5M.
Before playing for the Penguins, Morrow spent his entire 13-year career with the Stars. Blues general manager Doug Armstrong previously worked in the Dallas front office.

The St. Louis roster appeared to be set after Alex Pietrangelo signed a new contract with the Blues. Excluding competitions on the fourth line and for the seventh spot on defense, the rest of the depth chart probably could have been written in ink. The only transactions expected would involve sending players down from the NHL level.
Maybe the roster isn't set quite yet...

Starting next Thursday the puck will drop on a new season for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Much like preseason in any sport, it gives the fans a taste of what to expect from the team and give a look at some younger talent. The Penguins are 2-2-1 with their final preseason game Wednesday against at the Detroit Red Wings.
Despite his age, Derrick Pouliot could be NHL ready.
Marc-Andre Fleury will have to step up to shoulder the load with Vokoun out long term.
As if the Pittsburgh Penguins goaltending situation couldn’t get any cloudier, news broke a few days ago that Penguins back-up net-minder Thomas Vokoun would be out indefinitly with a blood clot in his pelvis.

The Penguins are in an uncomfortable spot at the NHL's most important position.
Marc-Andre Fleury — the franchise goalie who was benched because of ineffectiveness in the Stanley Cup playoffs and is coming off management's mandated sessions with a sports psychologist — suddenly is the franchise's lone proven goalie.

ST. LOUIS (AP) Signing cornerstone defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to a seven-year contract extension was just a matter of time for the St. Louis Blues. Two days into training camp, it was a done deal and there was happy talk he will be here for life.
The Blues believe the ice-hogging, offensive-minded Pietrangelo is the guy who can lead a team built to go deep into the playoffs. And...

The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't panic when the bitter disappointment of last spring's sweep at the hands of the Boston Bruins wore off.
If anything, the Penguins went the other way. While other NHL powers underwent substantial roster overhauls, Pittsburgh did what it could to keep the core of one of the league's most consistent winners in tack.

Crosby and Malkin will both play tonight. This is the first preseason game that the Two-Headed Monster has been together. Jeff Zatkoff will start in goal for Pittsburgh. The Penguins won the first preseason match-up between these two teams.
I was sitting in the press box in Buffalo on Saturday night when I read the report regarding Pittsburgh goalie Tomas Vokoun's serious health concern that will keep the veteran goalie sidelined indefinitely. My first though was that I hope that Vokoun can make a speedy recovery from the blood clotting issue that has sidelined him.
My second thought:
Who is going to play goalie fo...
I'd like to introduce a new format for my Monday column here at Pens Initiative called "Mad Monday with Mad Chad". In short, it's basically going to be me ranting about the Pittsburgh Penguins for the good and the bad. So here we go.
