The St. Louis Blues made their second move of the NHL free agency period on Saturday when they signed 32 year old veteran defenseman Kent Huskins to a one year contract.
Huskins, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, has spent five seasons in the NHL.
Last season Huskins appeared in 50 games for the San Jose Sharks, scoring two goals and assisting on two others. Huskins had a plus/minus rating of plus eight last season and spent just 12 minutes in the penalty box.
The move is yet another predictable move by the Blues to shore up a defense that ranked 16th in the NHL in goals against per game last season.
Huskins will likely compete with youngsters Ian Cole and Nikita Nikitin for a roster spot in what is already a crowded blue-line in St. Louis.
The Blues still will be looking to make a bit of splash by adding a play-making forward to a front line filled with talented youth, but it is unlikely that the organization does anything too crazy considering the franchise is up for sale.
