Happy birthday, No. 4. Arguably the greatest player ever to lace up skates, Bobby Orr, turned 65 on Wednesday, and that makes it a perfect time to celebrate the Bruins legend’s contributions to that organization, the region and the game itself. Orr was not only one of the greatest defensemen in the history of the game, but he also changed the way we looked at the position. He became the first real offensive-minded defenseman, but he was also defensively reliable. He turned in some of the most impressive statistical seasons that anyone has ever seen or will ever see. He remains one of the greatest sports legend in a region where sports are revered. When Orr’s numbers were raised to the Boston Garden rafters in 1979, he was met with a thunderous standing ovation that last more than five minutes. When he returned to TD Garden in 2011 for the Stanley Cup Final, he was met with another ear-splitting welcome. He transcends generation, and the statue of him flying through the air outside the present-day Garden serves as a reminder that he will continue to do so for years and generations. There’s no better time to look back at all he’s done than on his birthday. Without further ado, here are some of the greatest moments and accomplishments of No. 4′s career.
