The Dallas Stars haven't been able to close out their last two opponents, but having Jamie Benn back could help if they're in that position again Monday night at Columbus. So could first-liners Jaromir Jagr and Derek Roy. Benn could make his season debut and Jagr and Roy might return from one-game injury absences as the Stars face a Blue Jackets team that's winless since opening night. A first-time All-Star last season with career highs of 26 goals and 63 points, Benn signed a five-year. 26.25 million contract with the Stars (2-2-1) earlier this week. The fourth-year center was playing in Germany during the NHL lockout, so it's still uncertain if he'll have his work visa in time. Benn led the Stars with three goals and was tied for the team lead with five points as Dallas won three of four versus Columbus last season, including both at Nationwide Arena. Jagr (strained backhip) and Roy (groin) could also be available as the Stars look to rebound from Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Chicago and Saturday's 4-3 defeat to St. Louis. Dallas led by two in the second period against the Blackhawks and was up 2-1 after 20 minutes on Saturday behind goals from Tomas Vincour and Michael Ryder. "We're hoping to get big No. 14 (Been) back," coach Glen Gulutzan told the Stars' official website. "It's a tough road trip (at Columbus and at Detroit on Tuesday). Hopefully we can build off a little juice of getting 14 back in the lineup, getting (Jagr) and (Roy) back in there and get clicking again." The Blue Jackets are hoping to get back on track after dropping four straight since their first season-opening victory in three years, 3-2 in a shootout at Nashville on Jan. 19. Columbus (1-3-1) is also trying to get past the disappointment of a Derick Brassard goal being waved off in the second period of Saturday's 3-2 loss to Chicago after officials ruled that newcomer Nick Foligno interfered with goaltender Corey Crawford. "There's no time to dwell on things," said coach Todd Richards, whose team was outscored 9-1 in its previous two games both on the road. ". Every game is huge (in the shortened season), so you better be able to put the failures behind you, but you've also got to put your successes behind you too." Richards was pleased with Steve Mason's performance (21 saves) on Saturday and that might be enough to earn the former Calder Trophy winner his first set of back-to-back starts. Mason went 1-2-0 with a 2.69 goals-against average against the Stars in 2011-12. Blue Jackets No. 1 goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has a 1.44 GAA while winning both of his career starts versus Dallas. Those came while he was with Philadelphia. Kari Lehtonen, who has a 1.67 GAA while winning his last three starts at Columbus, should be starting for Dallas after replacing backup Cristopher Nilstorp (groin) with 7:41 left on Saturday. Lehtonen didn't start because of a "tweak" during the morning skate, but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. "We made sure he (Lehtonen) was ready," Gulutzan said. Dallas has killed 14 of 17 penalties over the last four games. Columbus has not converted any of its 14 power-play chances in its last three.

Dallas Stars Goalie Kari Lehtonen With Save of the Year (Video)

The shortened NHL season is only in it's early stages, and the Dallas Stars goalie already has a top candidate for save of the year.  Kari Lehtonen made a save that not only shocked me when I watched it, it faked out the announcers too.  The puck seemed to ricochet off his shoulder and hang in the air for a couple seconds.  Lehtonen didn't give up on it and decided to...

Stars put backup goalie Nilstorp on injured list

The Dallas Stars have put backup goalie Cristopher Nilstorp on the injured list and called up Richard Bachman from their minor league affiliate. The move Sunday came a day after Nilstorp injured a groin in the third period of a 4-3 loss to St. Louis and eventually left the game. Nilstorp has both Dallas losses filling in for starter Kari Lehtonen. Bachman is 3-1 in four games with...

Stars recall G Richard Bachman

The Dallas Stars have recalled goaltender Richard Bachman and sent goalie prospect Jack Campbell back to their AHL affiliate. Bachman will return to his role as the backup for Kari Lehtonen after appearing in two games and winning both for the Texas Stars. Bachman is 1-3 in four starts for Dallas this season, and he got another win when he replaced an injured Lehtonen in the first...

Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen provides early candidate for ‘Save of the Year’ (video)

The Dallas Stars were in Ohio on Monday night to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. While the game was light on offense and the Stars came up short on the road, losing to the hometown squad by a score of 2-1, little blame can be laid at the feet of Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen. Among his 25 saves on the night was this stupendous display of goaltending, in which he miraculously makes...

Brenden Morrow A 4th-Liner?

from Mike Heika of the Dallas Morning News, Morrow is playing on the fourth line and has logged less than 10 minutes a game in each of the last two outings. He hasn’t seen that kind of role since he wore No. 45 while breaking in as a rookie back in 1999-2000. It’s not an easy decision for the Stars to make, and it’s not an easy reality for Morrow, who has played 812 games...

Andrew Raycroft Was the Last Bruin to Win the NHL Rookie of the Year Award

Eight Bruins have won the NHL’s Calder Memorial Trophy — which is given to the rookie of the year — but winning it doesn’t always necessarily mean you’re on the path to stardom. While Bobby Orr and Ray Bourque won the award and now have their numbers retired at the TD Garden, some players — including the person who is Tuesday’s answer to The Four’s Trivia Question...

Stars G Kari Lehtonen makes amazing save

Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson had Stars goalie Keri Lehtonen beaten for a split second.  Johnson’s wrister hit Lehtonen in the trapper, tipped up over the goalie’s shoulder was headed for the net when Lehtonen used his go-go gadget reflexes to reach behind himself for a backhanded snatch. It was part pitcher-fielding-a-comebacker part magician, but it’s definitely the...

Video- Kari Lehtonen With The Save Of The Night

A reach behind, mid-air grab.

Video: Kari Lehtonen’s amazing behind-the-back save

Check out this incredible save from last night’s game between the Dallas Stars and the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Jackets are inches away from scoring the game’s opening goal, but Stars netminder Kari Lehtonen reaches behind his back to rob Columbus defenseman Jack Johnson of a sure tally. Bill Meltzer: Stars Gameday: 1/29/13 @ Red Wings

PREVIEW 7:45 AM CST Goals have been hard to come by for the Dallas Stars (2-3-1) in the team's last few games. The team has been in position to win each of the last three games, but has been unable to protect one-goal leads and unable to scratch out equalizing goals once they do fall behind. Glen Gulutzan's team will try again tonight when they head to Motown to take...

Dallas Stars (2-3-1, 5 pts) @ Detroit Red Wings (2-2-1, 5 pts) 6:30 PM CT Joe Louis Arena, Detroit, Michigan The Red Wings Like Dallas, the Wings have been off to a shaky start. Te'o Girlfriend Photo Roundup

Let's put all of the serious talk about the Manti Te'o girlfriend hoax aside for a few minutes and enjoy some humor. Even the Dallas Stars got in on the fun by welcoming Te'o's girlfriend to their home opener.

Blue Jackets 2, Stars 1

Vinny Prospal scored from a hard angle at 1:22 of the third and Sergei Bobrovsky had 24 saves to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets past the Dallas Stars 2-1 on Monday night, ending a four-game losing streak. It was the Blue Jackets' first victory since opening night in Nashville in a shootout. They had been outscored 16-6 since while mustering just a point in a shootout loss to...
