Zach Boychuk has a new contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. His job now: make the team.
Boychuk 23 signed a one-year two-way contract Tuesday with the Canes that will pay him $550000 on the NHL level or $105000 on the American Hockey League level in the 2013-2014 season.
Boychuk has spent much of the past four seasons in the AHL playing a total of 85 NHL games. The Canes’ first-round draft pick in 2008 was placed on waivers by Carolina last season claimed by the Pittsburgh Penhuins then placed on waivers by the Pens and claimed by Nashville.
Waived by the Predators Boychuk returned to the Hurricanes’ organization and rejoined the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL. He had 23 goals and 43 points for the Checkers last season.
Boychuk returned to Raleigh on Monday and participated in an informal skate with some of the Canes at Raleigh Center Ice.
