It looks like there was more behind the trade that brought Kyle Quincey to Detroit than we first thought. According to Hakan Andersson, the Red Wings' director of European scouting and the man who is largely responsible for bringing guys like Nick Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk to the NHL, Brad Stuart will not be returning to Detroit next season. “Brad’s wife is from the West Coast, and he wants to move back there. We’ve tried hard [to re-sign Stuart], but in vain.” While Quincey will probably be able to fill Stuart's shoes (skates?) adequately, there's always the possibility that Lidstrom rides off into the sunset after winning his 5th Stanley Cup this June. If this happens, the Wings could be in some serious trouble on the blue line next season. [The Malik Report]

Wounded Wings lose Howard, Kindl

DETROIT -- Forget about trying to get healthy. For now, the Red Wings are merely trying to stop the bleeding. Already missing defensemen Nick Lidstrom (ankle), Jonathan Ericsson (wrist), Pavel Datsyuk (knee) and Patrick Eaves (jaw, concussion), the Wings lost two more players againstthe Chicago Blackhawks Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Jakub Kindl left the game in the first period...

Is Brad Stuart’s potential departure the reason the Red Wings acquired Kyle Quincey? Probably so

Cue the, “Oh, s***” alert: Expressen’s Linus Hugosson let me know via Twitter that he spoke to Red Wings director of European scouting Hakan Andersson recently, and Andersson told Hugosson that Brad Stuart is definitely leaving the Wings this summer. As it’s 7 AM as I’m writing this and I haven’t slept since a mid-afternoon nap on Friday, here’s an incredibly rough...

Red Wings remain unconcerned about Todd Bertuzzi’s ‘baggage’

The New York Times’ Jeff Z. Klein spoke to both Red Wings forward Todd Bertuzzi and Wings GM Ken Holland about the team’s decision to sign Bertuzzi to a two-year extension recently, and while Bertuzzi offered little more than a shrug when he was asked about his lasting legacy as an NHL player… “I don’t know,” Bertuzzi said. “I’ll answer that in two more years....

Red Wings' Lidstrom out again with bruised ankle

APNewsNow. Red Wings captain Nicklas Lidstrom missed his second straight game Friday night because of a deep bone bruise in his right ankle suffered on Feb. 25. The veteran defenseman will miss at least two more games with the injury. Lidstrom's ankle has been X-rayed twice. It is only the 37th game that Lidstrom has missed in his 20-year career. The seven-time Norris Trophy...

Even When It’s Not About The Wings? It’s Still About The Wings

San Jose, as you may know, has beaten Detroit two straight years in the playoffs.  Yet, with pessimism ruling the day out west? They’re reaffirming what we already knew…like everyone else, the Sharks are just trying to get close to what the Wings have become. SJ Mercury News “Pavel Datsyuk doesn’t lead this league in scoring,” Wilson said of the Detroit Red Wings star...

Red Wings-Blackhawks game-day mad dash: Bertuzzi’s a game-time decision

As the Detroit Red Wings prepare to face off against the Chicago Blackhawks this afternoon (4 PM EST, FSD with Justin Abdelkader “mic’ed up” for the game/WGN/NHL Network U.S.—i.e. Center Ice/GameCenter Live are gonna be blacked out/97.1 the Ticket), we have a spartan but no less important slate of pre-game updates. Red Wings Recap 3.4.2012

The better team lost, but that's what happens every time Detroit loses to South Wisconsin.Full recap after the jump: Detroit lost because they didn't score on the PP. It was that the South Wisconsin PK was so good or that Emery was awesome. Detroit had chances; they had shots. They hit posts, but couldn't bury it. The bad guys got the breaks they needed and road some...

Red Wings Recap: 3.2.2012

That just happened. Detroit scored early and often and beat the Wild 6-0. This was an all around great effort by the entire team.Full recap after the jump: It was only the Wild, but Detroit played outstanding without their two best players. Filppula and Zetterberg were on fire tonight. That last goal by Hank was one of the best passing plays I've seen this year. Val's...

Red Wings-Blackhawks set-up and overnight report: know your enemy, but don’t emulate them

The Detroit Red Wings will face off against the Chicago Blackhawks this afternoon (4 PM EST, FSD with Justin Abdelkader mic’ed up/WGN/NHL Network U.S.[that’s right, Center Ice and/or GameCenter users, you’re screwed]/97.1 the Ticket) not particularly worried about the implications of this game save building upon their 2-game winning streak and Friday night’s win over Minnesota...

Red Wings-Blackhawks wrap-up and overnight report: owies and home-ice disadvantage

I’ve got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that the Red Wings reassigned Chris Conner to the Grand Rapids Griffins on Sunday evening, and they didn’t call anyone up after losing Jakub Kindl (“upper-body”) early in the 1st period and Jimmy Howard (“lower-body,” probably his groin) after the 1st period ended to what were probably precautionary measures...

Intent To Know: Red Wings Beer Maiden

From reader Brian Hessier, here's a Detroit Red Wings fan that would be welcome in any NHL arena, assuming she had a pitcher in one hand and a plate of smoked meats in the other.-Puck Daddy Jersey foul?  I think not. Follow NOHS on Facebook

Blackhawks Earn Two Big Points In Detroit
