So, it sounds like Brad Stuart won’t be getting a call from Brendan Shanahan in the league office regarding his devastating hit on Avs captain Gabriel Landeskog on Saturday.
Via David Pollack:
Bob McKenzie of TSN now reporting that the NHL will not be taking any further action on the hard hit by Brad Stuart on Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog. Looks like the league saw things the way the Sharks did and not Colorado coach Joe Sacco.
Video of the bone crushing hit is above. It was one of the defining moments of the game. Landeskog had to go to the locker room (he did return), and Ryan O’Byrne responded by quickly getting in a scrap with Stuart.
O’Byrne for his part earned a two-minute instigator penalty, on top of a two-minute penalty for instigating a fight while wearing a visor, on top of a 10-minute misconduct. The pair of minors gave the Sharks a four-minute power play.
Big mistake with Patrick Marleau on the other side. Marleau scored twice within two minutes during t...

The Brad Stuart hit on Landeskog, and subsequent responses were a full blown comedy of errors. I have a ton of thoughts about the entire ordeal, so let's just take it from the top. If you haven't read this by Travis Hughes, a Flyers blogger, yet please do. It was fantastic. First, here's the hit:
Gabriel Landeskog: The kid made the mistake of slightly losing track...
No penalty for the hit...
Brad Stuart: 5 minutes, fighting
Ryan O'Byrne: 2 minutes, instigator
Ryan O'Byrne: 2 minutes, instigator - face shield

San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart laid out Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog with a bone-crushing hit during the first period of Saturday's NHL game at the HP Pavilion.
The hit set off a critical sequence in the game, as Avs defenseman Ryan O'Byrne retaliated by instigating a fight with Stuart. As a result, O'Bryne was assessed 19 penalty minutes...
This was the hit that everyone was talking about yesterday. The Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart absolutely destorys the Av's forward Gabriel Landeskog with what appears to be a legal hit. I don't it's a violation of rule 48. Or is it?
Rule 48 - Illegal Check to the Head
48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where...
There was some fuss after Brad Stuart's hit on Gabriel Landeskog during the Saturday game in San Jose. There were two things about the fuss and the subsequent penalties that made me think "dumb, and dumber."
I am no expert on NHL hits, but Stuart's hit reminded me of a hit by Niklas Kronwall on Jakub Voracek in a game last season. There are probably better comparables...
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- One big check woke up the Sharks on Saturday. Defenseman Brad Stuart met Colorado's Gabriel Landeskog with a booming check in open ice, and his Sharks teammates took advantage of retaliation that resulted in power-play time for San Jose. Patrick Marleau's two power-play goals led the hosts to a 4-0 win over the Avalanche as San Jose won for a fourth...

from Elliotte Friedman of CBC,
- Hopefully Landeskog makes a full recovery. Hate to see anyone, much less a 20-year-old with so much in front of him, run into what could be concussion trouble. Brendan Shanahan is taking some heat for not suspending Brad Stuart for the hit, but Stuart did not target the head, didn't leave his feet before impact, kept his elbow tucked in...
EDMONTON, Alberta -- The Edmonton Oilers jumped over Colorado in the Northwest Division standings on Monday night with a 4-1 win over the Avalanche at Rexall Place. The Avalanche were missing a couple of key ingredients in Gabriel Landeskog (head injury) and Ryan O’Reilly (contract holdout), and the Oilers were steaming after a disappointing loss to rival Calgary on Hockey Night...
