Detroit @ Anaheim - Game-4: Red Wings win 6-3

After upsetting the No.1 ranked San Jose Sharks in the first round of the playoffs, the bottom seed Anaheim Mighty Ducks found themselves going into game-4 with a 2-1 series lead over the No.2 Detroit Red Wings.  A victory would set them up nicely to hand out a second major upset, knocking out the two top teams.  A loss, however, would even the series up 2-2, and would make it extremely difficult for the Mighty Ducks to get past the reigning Stanley Cup champs.

  • Anaheim would get on the board first with a goal from Corey Perry, but Detroit would respond with 2-goals from Johan Franzen, including one with 36-seconds remaining in the period, going into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.
  • Perry would score his second goal of the game halfway into the second period, but Marion Hossa would score a pair of goals - once again - including a goal with under a minute to play in the period, to give Detroit a 4-2 lead.
  • Mikael Samuelsson got his second goal of the playoffs 2:46 into the third period, resulting in a goalie switch for the Mighty Ducks.
  • Scott Niedermayer narrowed the Red Wings lead back down to two with a goal halfway into the third period, but all hope would be lost with a Henrik Zetterberg goal on an empty net in the final minutes of the game.

It was a much needed win for Detroit, and a devastating loss for Anaheim.  Detroit is a dangerous team, and never easy to beat.  Anaheim was in a position to take a 3-1 series lead, the best scenario they could ask to be in.  Now, Anaheim needs to win 2 of 3 games against last years Stanley Cup champions, with only 1-game to play on home-ice.  It will not be easy!

Detroit should be happy to get back into the series.  With the series tied, they clearly have the upper hand.  Facing a potential 3-1 series deficit, they stepped up and made their statement!

Series Tied 2-2
