The much anticipated re-match between the Penguins and Red Wings was far from a let down.  With back-and-forth action, tons of scoring opportunities, and physical play, the game everything you could ask for.  It was proof that a low scoring hockey game does not have to be boring.  If you watched it, you know what I mean.  If you missed it, don't worry; there is no off day between games 1&2, and the energy is certain to carry over into Sunday's game.

  • Scoring got under way on a strange goal by Brad Stuart.  Shooting the puck into the Penguins zone, the puck bounced off the boards and headed towards the net.  It then bounced off the back of Penguins' Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury's leg pad, and went into the net, giving Detroit a 1-0 lead.
  • 5-minutes later, former Flyer Ruslan Fedotenko took advantage of a rebound off the leg pad of Red Wings' Goalie Chris Osgood, putting the puck into a wide open net to tie the game.
  • The second period would go scoreless until the final minute of play.  With 58-seconds left, Johan Franzen gave Detroit a 2-1 lead with his 11th goal of the playoffs.
  • Early in the third period, the Red Wings took a 2-goal lead when Justin Abddelkader, who plays on the fourth line, scored his 1st goal of the playoffs.

Despite the low score, there were many opportunities from both teams, with great saves were made by both goalies.  The intensity level was high, and should be an indicator of what to expect in game-2.
