BOSTON -- The Boston Bruins ran their lockout-delayed season record to 2-0 with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Winnipeg Jets Monday. Tuukka Rask stopped 26 of 27 shots in the game and then yielded only one goal in the shootout, Bryan Little's attempt to continue the game hitting the post to Rask's left. Boston's Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron beat Ondrej Pavelec, who played a strong game, in the shootout while former Bruin Blake Wheeler opened the competition with a goal for Winnipeg. Winnipeg's Chris Thorburn and Boston's Brad Marchand traded first-period goals, as the Jets picked up their first point of the season while falling to 0-1-1. Rask, taking over the No. 1 spot with Tim Thomas deciding not to play out the final year of his contract, has yielded two goals in the two wins. The Bruins had a chance to take the lead on the power play in the third period when Evander Kane went off for goaltender interference at 12:31. Early in the power play, R...

Tuukka Rask Isn’t a Big Fan of Shootouts, Unless He’s Just Watching Them

BOSTON — Tuukka Rask has made a habit of winning hockey games during his NHL tenure but when it comes to shootouts, he’s far from perfect. The young goaltender doesn’t have an awful record in shootouts, but with the Bruins’ win over the Jets on Monday, he raises his record in the game-ending showdowns to 9-7 for his career. It’s not a very well-kept secret that many hockey...

Tuukka Rask Has Bruins’ Highest Career Save Percentage

Hopes are high for the Boston Bruins this season and the team’s goalie should be one of the biggest reasons. Tuukka Rask holds a distinct honor in Bruins’ history. Rask has played 103 total games with Boston, and he’s the franchise’s leader in save percentage. Rask has a save percentage of .926, which is .005 better than Tim Thomas, who’s No. 2 on the list. Rask has received...

Rask stars in net as Bruins top Rangers

Tuukka Rask stopped 20 shots for Boston in his first game after taking over for two-time Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas, and the Bruins beat the New York Rangers 3-1 Saturday night in the lockout-delayed season opener. Milan Lucic and Daniel Paille scored for Boston, which won the Northeast Division last year before losing in the first round of the playoffs. Rask backed up Thomas...

Tuukka Rask Comes Up Big, Leading Bruins Out of ‘Starting Blocks’ on Right Foot (Video)

Some high expectations are being placed on the Bruins this season, and Tuukka Rask will have to shoulder much of that load. Such is the plight of a starting goaltender after all, especially one taking over for Tim Thomas. Despite that pressure, Rask looked perfectly comfortable between the pipes as the No. 1 goalie on Saturday, leading the B’s to a 3-1 victory in the first game...

Bruins Finally Catch Deserving Bounce in Shootout as ‘Clang Gang’ Effort Ends With Victory (Video)

Two U’s, two K’s, two posts standing six feet apart. Tuukka Rask and the goal posts were the difference-makers on Monday, as the Bruins found themselves in the middle of a wild game thanks to some unfortunate (and then fortunate) bounces. Ultimately, they ended up on the right side of things, but not without some crazy swings resulted in a 2-1 shootout victory over the Jets....

Bruins 3, Rangers 1

Tuukka Rask stopped 20 shots for Boston in his first game after taking over for two-time Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas, and the Bruins beat the New York Rangers 3-1 in the lockout-delayed season opener on Saturday night. Milan Lucic and Daniel Paille scored for Boston, which won the Northeast Division last year before losing in the first round of the playoffs. Rask backed up Thomas...

Bruins oust rival Rangers in testy season opener

BOSTON -- The Bruins spent their opening game giving all kinds of goodies to their fans to welcome them back from the long lockout. They clearly had no intention, however, of giving away a game as they beat the New York Rangers, 3-1, in an Original Six battle, the opener for both teams, Saturday night. "It was a great effort," center Patrice Bergeron said his team struggled...

Bruins Overcome Adversity Against Jets With Win That Showcases Team’s Resolve

BOSTON –- The Bruins had plenty of chances to pack it in on Monday afternoon at the Garden against Winnipeg, and had they been a lesser team, they may have done just that. The B’s were tested in numerous ways, but still found just enough to escape with a 2-1 shootout win, now having racked up a maximum four points in the season’s first two games. In the process, the Bruins...

Quiet On the Offensive Front

With a somewhat revamped offense and Rick Nash in the lineup, the New York Rangers' offense was quiet in their season opening 3-1 loss to the Boston Bruins. Obviously, it was the first game and players still have to get used to each other, but nevertheless, the Blueshirts did not generate enough offensive pressure. While the Bruins' defensemen are big and do a good job...

Ty Anderson: Live-Blog: Seidenberg out against Jets

(Welcome to the TD Garden for today's matinee affair between the Boston Bruins and visiting Winnipeg Jets...) Saturday night could've been better for the Black-and-Gold, who proved that they're capable of hanging with the East-favorite New York Rangers, downing them by a score of 3-1, with goals coming from every line but the third. Goaltender Tuukka Rask stopped 20...

Jets-Bruins Preview

Despite the long lockout, the Boston Bruins appeared to be in midseason form in winning their opener. They should have a good chance to make it two in a row with the Winnipeg Jets in town Monday. The Bruins look to make it 11 straight home victories over a Jets team that, in contrast, looked rusty in dropping its first game. Boston got goals from Milan Lucic, Daniel Paille and...
