BOSTON -- If the Boston Bruins were after revenge, they got it. They also got their first win of the season while dropping the Canes to 0-2.
The Bruins rolled to a 7-2 victory at TD Garden, scoring four times on the power play.
The Canes' Eric Staal took a puck in the side of the head midway the second period and was taken to the locker room for treatment. Staal was in front of Bruins goalie Tim Thomas and was hit on an apparent deflection near the right ear.
Staal returned in the third period and scored the Canes' second goal. Winger Erik Cole left late in the third with an apparent leg injury after a collision with Dennis Wideman.
The Bruins led 6-1 after two periods, with a wild melee at the end of the second holding up the game for several minutes.
After trailing 5-0, the Canes finally scored a goal. The two former playoff foes, Scott Walker and Aaron Ward teamed up, Walker redirecting Ward's shot for the score at 15:21 of the second.
