(Photo Credit: Tim Fuller//USA Today Sports) After a jam-packed and rollercoaster ride-like week of preseason games, the Bruins racked up two wins, one shootout win, and one loss. Crossing the border into Canada to face off against long-time rival, the Montreal Canadiens, deemed itself worthy after the efforts of Jarome Iginla and Torey Krug – who were named first and second stars of the game. The Bruins pounded the Canadien defense, blaring the goal siren six times while holding Montreal to only three goals. Iginla’s first career preseason game with the Bruins proved he is going to benefit the squad come October. He finished the night with two goals. Defenseman, Torey Krug helped the Bruins on three goals, collecting three points for the night. The first line – consisting of Iginla, David Krejci, and Milan Lucic – relentlessly penetrated Montreal’s net. Krejci added one goal as well as Iginla’s two while the line in total chipped in for all six goals. Zach Trotman added one goal and Nick Johnson scored twice. Heading back to the states also provided another thrilling victory for Boston. 24 hours after defeating the Canadiens, the Bruins travelled down to Baltimore, Md. to play Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. In shootout fashion, the Bruins conquered the Capitals and collected another win. Niklas Svedberg, in his spoked-B debut, stuffed several Capitals in overtime and the shootout to earn his first win with the Bruins. Chris Kelly and Justin Florek chipped in two goals during regulation to help edge the team into overtime and a shootout where Carter Camper scored the game-winning goal. In the Bruins first home preseason game of the 2013-14 season brought misery to Boston fans. The number eight stood directly next to the Detroit Red Wings label, while the Bruins label held a low number of two. Malcolm Subban, 19-year-old Canadian, felt the cold shoulder of his teammates after losing to Detroit 8-2. The embarrassing loss last Thursday did prove positives such as, Nick Johnson and Jarome Iginla tallied three goals in three preseason games. Playing Detroit on their home turf, two days later, seemed to give the Bruins the incentive to win. Carl Soderberg stole the show, scoring the lone two goals of the game, giving the Bruins their third preseason win. Netminder, Chad Johnson stopped all 18 shots faced to collect his first shutout of the season. The Bruins continue their 2013-14 preseason against the Capitals tomorrow, Sep. 23, inside the TD Garden at 7:00 pm EST. For Sep. 26 and 27, Boston will head back up to Canada to face off against the Winnipeg Jets in Winnipeg on Thursday at 7:30 pm EST and Saskatoon on Friday at 9:00 pm EST.

Boston Bruins: Bruins vs Red Wings recap; Patrice Bergeron Returns to action

The Detriot Red Wings welcomed the Boston Bruins into the arena tonight for a pre-season, one that was quite entertaining to say the least. Both teams were held scoreless through almost two periods, until Bruins own Carl Soderberg broke the tie to put the B’s up by one goal with only 1:04 left in the period.  Then only 41 seconds into the third period, Soderberg would net a...

Patrice Bergeron Has The Best Team And Zone Adjusted Corsi

A few days ago I posted the top 20 players by team and zone adjusted Corsi ratings.  Leading the list was Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.  This is a strong argument that Bergeron is the best puck possession player in the NHL in 2013.  Bergeron is a top defensive forward with solid offensive skills.  He plays a tough role for the Boston Bruins where he plays against tough...

Bruins’ Once-Maligned Power Play Looking Like Potential Strength Given Early Success

BOSTON — It’s become pretty en vogue to complain about the Bruins’ power play in seasons past, and for good reason. The Boston man-advantage has been comically bad at times, often leaving it as a point of criticism and ridicule from fans and media alike. If the first five preseason games are any indication, however, there may be reason to believe the Bruins’ power play might...

Milan Lucic-Joel Rechlicz Fight a ‘Fight for Men,’ Gives Bruins Winger Chance to Warm Up Fists

BOSTON — The Bruins probably don’t necessarily like Milan Lucic fighting too much. He’s a top-six forward who has shown an ability to score goals, and he also brings a physical presence that is undeniable. However, that doesn’t do him or the team much good if he’s watching games from the press box with a broken hand. But fighting is a part of Lucic’s game, and it makes...

WATCH: Capitals' Rechlicz bests Milan Lucic in fight

In the Washington Capitals’ preseason game against the Boston Bruins Monday night, Joel Rechlicz, one of the most well known fighters in hockey showed that besides winning shootouts he can also destroy one of the toughest players in hockey in a one-on-one bout. That player being Milan Lucic of the Bruins who decided to drop gloves with “Recker” and got demolished. The fight...

Last two question marks facing the Boston Bruins

With five preseason games in the books and two to go, it is worth checking-in on the question marks still facing the Bruins starting roster, namely: Who will play on the 3rd line alongside Chris Kelly, and which two of the trio of Dougie Hamilton, Torey Krug, and Matt Bartkowski will be in the starting lineup when the season begins on October 3rd?photo via NHL.comThe latter is probably...

Bruins beat Caps on Kelly OT goal, 3-2

It was another fight-filled preseason game on Monday night at the TD Garden but the Bruins were able to get the last laugh as Chris Kelly scored the game-winner with 1:21 remaining in overtime giving the B's a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals. Kelly won't get one any easier than that as the puck shot out to him in the slot after a Matt Bartkowski shot from the left point...

Bruins power play looks revitalized

The era of the Bruins power play as league-wide punch line might finally be coming to an end. It was a constipated unsightly run last season for the Bruins. They ranked 26th in the NHL with a 14.8 percent success rate during the regular season and they have ranked in the NHL’s bottom third of power play success percentage in three of the last four seasons. During the playoffs...

Bruins beat Red Wings 2-0 in preseason

Chad Johnson made18 saves and Carl Soderberg scored both goals to lead the Boston Bruins over the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 in a preseason game Saturday night. Boston (3-1-0) continued its strong exhibition season after coming up short in the Stanley Cup finals last season, losing in six games to the Chicago Blackhawks. Jonas Gustavsson stopped 12 shots for Detroit (2-2-0) in the first...

Bergeron feels good in debut, happy to move forward

While Patrice Bergeron lost the opening faceoff at center ice to Stephen Weiss the B’s two-way center also used enough force to snap Weiss’ stick in the process and sent him to the bench for another twig. Then in the same period Bergeron went hard into the corner to deliver a hit on Red Wings defenseman Brendan Smith while passing the preseason contact test. “It felt pretty...

Milan Lucic throws down with Joel Rechlicz in epic preseason brawl

If you’re a first line winger for your NHL squad, maybe engaging in a slugfest of heavy fisticuffs in the preseason isn’t the best idea. Apparently nobody told that to Milan Lucic before the Bruins exhibition matchup against the Capitals on Monday, as Lucic and Joel Rechlicz went back and forth with big blows for nearly a minute during the first period at the TD Garden. Rechlicz...

Bruins-Red Wings Live: Patrice Bergeron Returns to B’s Lineup for Tilt in Detroit

6:30 p.m.: On Thursday, it was Gregory Campbell who was returning to the Bruins lineup. Patrice Bergeron’s turn comes Saturday night in Detroit. Bergeron will make his preseason debut Saturday night when the Bruins take on the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. It marks Bergeron’s first game action since Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final. The Boston center collected a handful of injuries...

Bruins-Capitals Live: Tuukka Rask Making Second Appearance As B’s Welcome Caps to Boston

12 p.m: The Bruins will play their second preseason home game on Monday night, and they’re sure hoping it goes a lot better than the preseason home opener. The B’s were rolled 8-2 by Detroit at TD Garden on Thursday night, and they’ll get a chance to turn their home mojo around Monday night when they welcome the Washington Capitals to Boston. The ugly loss to the Red Wings...
