BOSTON — The Bruins organization is one that prides itself on organizational depth, and that depth has been no more prevalent than it has been this year. The Bruins made yet another roster move Saturday morning when they recalled forward Justin Florek from the Providence Bruins of the AHL on an emergency basis. Florek is eligible to play Saturday afternoon when the Bruins take on the Winnipeg Jets at TD Garden. The 23-year-old has been one of Providence’s most efficient players this season with nine goals and 11 assists to go along with a plus-11 rating for the P-Bruins. The Michigan native is a big winger, standing 6-foot-4 and weighing in at a shade under 200 pounds. Florek was the fifth-round draft pick of the Bruins in 2010 out of Northern Michigan University where he played four seasons before turning pro. If Florek were to play Saturday afternoon against the Jets, he would become the sixth player to make his NHL debut with the Bruins this season. Photo via Flickr/stephvailFile...

Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Jordan Caron Out, Justin Florek Expected to Make NHL Debut Against Jets

BOSTON — The distance between Boston and Providence isn’t a big one, as about 50 miles separates the two New England cities. There’s a growing group of players in the Bruins organization that knows that trip pretty well by now. The Bruins have had to dip into their AHL affiliate a bunch of times already this season for emergency call-ups, and that trend continued Saturday morning...

Torey Krug Breaks Out in Big Way As Bruins Take Care of Business Before Difficult Road Trip

BOSTON — Maybe Torey Krug should take maintenance days a little more often. The Bruins defenseman didn’t practice Friday morning, the beneficiary of what B’s coach Claude Julien labeled a “maintenance day.” Krug was dealing with some sort of nagging ailment and was even a gametime decision Saturday afternoon against the Winnipeg Jets. The decision was that the rookie would...

Boston Bruins: Reilly Smith

Photo: Brian Babineau/Getty Images Just a young and inexperienced 22-year-old hockey player, you say? I beg to differ that the Ontarian-native, Reilly Smith’s age reflects or correlates the style or ability of play he displays, nor his knowledge of the game. In 2009, the 6-foot and 185 lbs. forward was drafted to the Dallas Stars at the age of 17. Yes, he had not graduated high...

PREVIEW: Bruins vs. Jets -- Make it a Double

Bruins back at it this afternoon for a matinee match up against the Winnipeg Jets. We're going to blame the Jets for the artic weather outside. Bastards. Winnipeg, despite moving to the West, is still a ****** team, playing .500 hockey which isn't bad for a team with roots from the Thrashers. Meanwhile, we're still waiting for the Bruins to play a full 60...

Florek called up to Bruins on emergency recall

The Bruins were going to take a couple of days to discuss whether Justin Florek would head with the team on their three-game West Coast trip to California, and it looks like they liked what they saw. The Bruins rookie was again pulled up on emergency recall on Monday after playing with Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell on Sunday, and he’ll be making the road trip with the Black...

Preds get great Road point against Bruins

The Nashville Predators faced a very good Boston Bruins team (27-12-2) Thursday night and instead of getting quite decisively steamrolled they stuck to their guns and took the Bruins to overtime where they lost 3-2 and only picked up a single yet impressive road point. After a rather dull 35 minutes with both teams playing a possessional stalemate, Stalberg finally broke the deadlock...

Ty Anderson: How Marchand got his groove back

In the waning moments of a tied game, Brad Marchand’s attempt to carry the puck into the Nashville zone was cut short with a huge hit from the Preds’ captain, 6-foot-4 Shea Weber. Absolutely smashed in the mouth by the perennial Norris nominee, the Bruins’ undersized winger didn’t look for a call or take a retaliatory penalty, instead opting to get up and get...
